A soldier from the ''transhuman arm of the combie'' (a long name that compensates for [b]nothing[/b]) keeps most of his memories, they only remove the ones that make him remember why he doesn't or shouldn't like the combine. Considering the timeline (20 years of combine rule), that's at least ten years of memories.
