Infantry Stealth Recognition is also good in addition to ACE and Zeus spotting. What it does it let you set your own variables for the camouflage (how well others can see them) and hearing (gunfire and movement). I've got the variables set so you can fire a silenced pistol in the cover of night at 50m and not be spotted.
Far Cry 2's sniping is great, you can shoot an enemy in the leg from afar, and one of his buddies will pick him up, allowing you to take them both out

Yeah, but if you miss or shoot a guy in the head they all know exactly where you are.
I really enjoy a good sniping game. There's just something so entertaining about landing that perfect head shot. That's why I played JFK Reloaded, because the sniping part was so much fun.
Does anyone have any games that are simply just about sniping?
You do realise real snipers don't go for headshots? The torso is a much bigger target. You don't get points for hitting the head in real life, you get dead if you miss.
I don't think real life would make for a good sniping game PLing.
Red orchestra has great sniping, with bullet ballistics and stuff. You need a fast loading pc if you want to get the sniper role though, because it's usually picked first and only 1 or 2 are allowed per team.
Red Orchestra has it's flews though... Not saying it's a bad game but still.
Fallout new vegas.
Now wait, I'm not talking about the sniping mechanic, it's not realistic at all - just a crosshair and bullets travel instantly and always in the center (if you have required skill to use that gun). But this game is great of thinking out tactics on how you will take down enemies. AI behaves realistically on basic levels. You can sneak they can see something moving (you) and go investigate there if won't spot immediately. If you fire without the suppressor and kill someone, others will hear it and go in the direction of the sound to investigate. If you kill someone with silencer others can still be alerted if they wander across their bodies - then they will walk and look in random direction and try to locate you.
All of this plus completely open world, a LOT better FPS system (like aiming in the crosshair and bullet will fly to the center like in real life, not "you have 42% to hit this target no matter how good you are aiming) RPG aspects like inventory and scavenging makes it a perfect "Alone sniper in the field" simulator. Even better if you will play like the character is you and react to surrounding things like a real man would react, not just "Oh this is generic trailer park car prop".
Really, really low endurance (Affects health and damage resistance) makes you really vulnerable which is perfect because you won't run and gun.
I actually have to agree with patcher, I enjoyed sniping in fallout new Vegas because of the things he said more or less
especially when infiltrating a base, take out a guard out post, sneak in steal guards clothes dress up as one of them etc
Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead is probably the most realistic modern sniping experience you can get:
Spotters
Team command
Range finders
Multiple rifles
Multiple optics
Realistic ranges, damage and ballistics
And not to mention you can make randomly generated missions for infinite playability.
anyone here ever play silent scope in the arcades?
fun sniping game. pretty creepy near the end.
I think I played that, but the sniper at the hall was kind of broke, you couldn't steadily point it towards targets down the screen because it would bounce back.
JFK Reloaded rocks. I got it a long time ago, I think it's been taken down.

That's why I always aim for the spine in hitman.

I played that on PS2 with my dad when I was a little kid.
Vanilla AI can be fucked up some times, get Zeus or ACE. Also, silenced rifle doesn't mean stealth, it's still fucking loud and laying prone sadly doesn't do much to the xray vision of the AI.
It was with ACE, and the fact that I was out 800 meters, well 'hidden' and it was dark that made it ridiculous
but don't snipe in multiplayer
dear god the desync
THE DESYNC
In all seriousness, the best games for sniping would be Sniper Elite, STALKER and ARMA 2.

So fucking this.
Started playing not long time ago. Suppresed sniper is so fucking awesome in this game, especially if you're using Sneak and Guns as main abilities.

Desync in BF2? Never seen any, back at 2008.

Forgot to add "Super-realistic AI, like spotting you at up to 1 km after you accidently fart and then headshotting with an AK-47".
Mister pling here has a point. A real sniper would rather take out multiple soldiers by hurting one and thus making some of his mates help him. That way you have to help instead of just grabbing his dogtag and running along. :frogbon:
Real snipers crawls 2 days through mud to the vantage point, sit there perfectly fucking still, pissing himself, until the target comes the next day or something calculate his shot with his spotter, pull the trigger and crawl 2 days back.
If you get caught, prepare to be slowly tortured to death.
Sniper is one of the worst jobs imagniable. Don't get why every 10 year old little retard shit wants to be one.
Designated marksman on the other had sounds bit more intresting.
But yes, Sniper Elite is the only way to go. Only somewhat realistic dedicated sniping game.

I don't know if the ten-year-old little retard shit was aimed at me, but whatever. Sure it's a shitty job, but the fact that they're that dedicated to they're country is fucking bad ass. Maybe that's why people think the games, and the job is awesome.
I do not think you know the definition of sniping
LoL hey jun~!
what in the world

oh sup man
A non-lethal takedown is always the most silent takedown.

*Queue lines of guards rushing to your position*

Always went for that when I was little, best sniping game ever.
