Blasters are close range weapons. If you're using hybrids and want range, use railguns.
Blasters = Point blank range.
Try using railguns, Autocannons (should work), Artillery, Heavy Missiles, etc. etc. etc.
Every race has a long and short range weapon variant. Use the longer one if you have to.
