Why all the hate on dem lovely fitting rigs :(
It's not that they're inherently bad, they do have their uses, but in my case I prefer my ships to have more versatility than what cpu/powergrid rigs allow for. This way if I want to change the setup, I don't need to destroy the fitting rig or buy another ship to accomplish it.
I'm sort of a cheapskate, so even something like an ACR bugs me if I get to the point where I have it on a ship that doesn't need it anymore.
I'm downloading the trial for this since I've always wanted to check it out. I've heard that you don't really get anything good unless you've been playing it for years and that it's really "unfair", is this true? Also, is there anything I should know before I start playing?
Unfair isn't the word for it. Everyone can do something to everyone. Every ship has it's place and use, no matter who's flying it

I've been playing less than a year and can afford to buy just about any ship below a super capital (mothership/titan). Of course I can't fly most of them, but I can still buy them.
The number one rule new players should keep in mind: DON'T TRUST ANYONE. You can be scammed, killed, cheated, stolen from, etc and it's all within the rules of the game. It's essentially the wild west, in space.

*You cannot train industrial ships on a trial account
I would like to play this again.
My account seems to have been deactivated or something, so I've put a poll in and I'm waiting for a response.
Holy shit guys, that show "Firefly" is the epitome of this game. Watch the show. Play the game. Bask in the awesome sci-fi atmospheres.
I played it for an hour or two and found it really confusing. The game is beautiful and I love the looks of the UI and everything, but it's very complicated. I got lost like ten times. Going to try again tomorrow.

Firefly is nothing like Eve.

So, how long did it take you guys to actually get going in the game? Can you get a REALLY good feel for what the game is like in the trial time? Or is it like WoW where only the endgame is fun? Also, what's this thing I hear about buying game time with ingame money?

-Took me 4 months to become an Orca Miner, then decided to start PVP'ing. Then "got going" in the game and found what I liked doing.-
-Yeah, if you start on something at the beginning and go through with it the whole time. (IE: Basic PVP the whole time, or Basic Mining The whole time)
-There is really no "endgame" unless you consider supercapitals. Which aren't usually the most fun.
-You can buy ingame items, sold by other players, that give you 30-days credit. They usually hover around 300million credits each, so unless you work your ass off the first month, it's not something to consider immediately.
Could I get some sort of perspective for the money amounts? Like how much can certain amounts of money get you? How much would a good haul from mining get you? How much from a mission? etc etc.

Depends what kind of missions and what you're mining.
Mmm... alright, last question, what's the race that most resembles the Imperium of Man :v:
Alright guys, can anyone tell me what station I need to go to in order to sign up with RvB?
I don't mind which.
Amarr, or if you mean capitalist caldari
Alright guys, I'm gonna try this shit out
Stand the fuck back, there's a new player in this universe :v:

You don't actually need to be in a station with an office to apply anymore. Just open the corp's show info and hit apply.
cool I bought 2 plex and I'm going to sell one and activate a 2nd account with the other.

Red HQ is in Tourier, Blue HQ is in Alentene. I don't remember the stations though.
I'm trying to start a lottery but of course everyone in EvE defines Lottery as Scam, kind of hard to get my foot in the door. Only had one person buy tickets *Sigh
Just thought it would be fun, even made a website
Get it secured by a third party (Chribba, Grendell, etc), so people don't label it as a scam right off the bat.

In my opinion, the easiest (and lowest risk) way to make money, would be to run missions. Once you get to level 4s, you'll start to rake it in (you'll make by far more than you would mining in hisec, or even lowsec for that matter).
The trade-off here is the skill requirement compared to mining. A Hulk (the best mining ship in the game) is fairly 'easy' to get into, while something like a battleship takes far more training to be able to fly effectively. Of course you should keep in mind, many of the skills you need to run missions also carry over to pvp, whereas skilling for mining sort of paints you into a corner.
In my mining days (using Hulk + Orca), I used to think 30-ish million isk payouts for a full days work were great, now I make more than that per hour running missions, just to give you some idea of what you can expect.
well the thing about eve is that skill wise you can never paint yourself into a corner. there is no real "choose a path and now you're stuck with it forever"
mining is nice if you want a reasonably profitable way to make money that you have to pay little attention to. most of the time I mine, I pull up a movie on my second monitor, and occasionally I mine while playing other games. if I ever want something more directly entertaining and time consuming, I go mission for a while. if I ever get an alt I might try pvp.
actually, I was considering training one of my other characters only far enough to be a somewhat effective pvper, then switch training back to my main. don't know how well that works though.

You can afk even better doing missions. Just setup a passive tanked ship (I like ishtar for this), agro something, release the ogres and minimize the window.

I've considered it, but it would make me incredibly nervous. I find drone aggression to be unreliable at times. and even then, I'm not sure, but I think some npcs will attack drones seven if you attacked them first.

I've never run into NPCs changing targets after being aggressed. I know against Serpentis, with the Ishtar's high resist you can agro entire rooms without problems. After agressing everything I just release the ogres and let them attack whatever they want.

My point being that even just doing missions lazy like this, you still end up with more isk than mining.
well the thing about eve is that skill wise you can never paint yourself into a corner. there is no real "choose a path and now you're stuck with it forever"
No, but it does handicap you training time-wise if you decide you don't want to mine anymore, as was the case with me. With mining, you can't really cross over quickly to anything. Even things like manufacturing and R&D have their own skill sets that you wouldn't necessarily need to be an 'effective' miner.
Compare that to missioning, if you want to get into pvp, you've got your core combat skills ready to go.
The Devs touched on this yesterday, but there's going to be the EvE's version of Raids. NPC Invasions where people can Warp in and out and participate at their leisure, with rewards. Obviously these in Low and Null sec will be greater than High sec
Guys I have a dilemma once again. Should I sell both of my two plexes or sell one and use the other to activate a 2nd account. hmmm

Sell one with an Item exchange contract for 580Mil, and rename it to 2x Plex >=)
