Well, actually, I know for a fact that the tengu is miles better than the drake, but i'm not entirely sure on the cost effectiveness. I know Tarkin lost his in a mission this week and pretty much undid an entire summer of missioning.
I'm particularly interested in the nighthawk but it seems you can either fit it like an expensive drake or a shitty tengu.
edit: scratch that, the nighthawk takes quite a bit longer to train than the tengu, and for little to no benefit as far as level 4s go.
I realize that command ships have a purpose outside of missioning, but for my purposes I think a tengu would be best if I can manage to afford it and not lose it.
Tarkin lost his Tengu because he screwed up while running the AE bonus room. I use one for missions as well, it tanks like crazy while spitting out insane dps for a cruiser sized ship. If you really don't want a battleship, which are the most efficient L4 runners, the Tengu would be fine.
The Nighthawk is not a good L4 runner because the dps is relatively low. For PVE, the Nighthawk is meant more for L5s or plexes because of the huge passive tank it can fit.
Anyone willing to start again with me? More fun with someone else an all that

If you are willing to fit the NH correctly (meaning a not insignificant amount of isk), it can do a good 700 dps while tanking anything you need (think active tank, dual small complex boosters or complex medium). It also has the added bonus of having the capacity to actually use drones (compared to a tengu).
Tengu for missioning is a little overkill in my opinion, too expensive for what you get in return. Other ships can do the same shit for cheaper.
Also, can't wait to get back home so I can PVP more since I'm starting to suck and get rusty.

And imo it sucks on any mission where you have more than a couple frigates (read almost every level 4).
Rattle snake for tanking level 4, it is over kill.
few days left till I can get into mine.
Just did my first major fleet op in 0.0 space. I was in a fleet of 24 ships (mostly battlecruisers, battleships, and scouts), flying a Drake. We putted around for three hours with no luck finding targets, but on the way home we ran into an equally sized enemy fleet! It was a massacre. We lost a few ships, three or four, but they lost almost twenty! I personally laid the finishing blows (and majority of damage) on two Myrmidons, and dealt a significant percentage of hurt to a Scorp.
A drake is a horrible PVP ship, i'm surprised you managed to get kills!
Everyone hates a drake in PVP, it's high tank and low DPS means it's just a stalemate ship.
I'm training for an apoc or abaddon for my new alliance, I can fly ceptors and interdictors like a god but i've been kinda lacking with my DPS PVP skills.

You can join my corp! We are in slays, the station is the first one on the list, and the Corp is Unified Constellation or something like that. Lookie there, i can't even remember the name to my own corp :v:.

A max skill Nighthawk with 4 Caldari Navy BCS does 596 dps with scourge fury. Drones add 99 dps, but again, that's max skills across the board. By comparison, I do 663 dps in a Tengu and my skills aren't maxed out.
The Tengu isn't my primary mission ship anyway, I use a Golem and Raven Navy Issue.
^sweet jesus. My guns on my thrasher do just under 400 damage all together, and that is with 7 guns. My missile launcher is a joke- 50 damage per shot :smith:

I'd like to make a "glass cannon" type of setup that does huge amounts of damage, but isn't necessarily a great tank. In fleet operations, having heavy hitters like that seems like it'd come in handy. Any suggestions on which Battlecruiser would work best for me- of the Gallente and Caldari selections?
TrY fitting out a Domonix with a shitload of turrets, they have 6 or 7 high slots. Fit med with capacitor batteries or a cap recharger. With low try get some sort of dps increase module. For rigs just fit whatever.

Please never fly a dominix. Ever. You disgrace my Battleship 5 Heritage.

Brutix is incredibly High Point blank DPS.
The Shield Hurricane offers nearly as high levels, but is alot faster, and can do reasonable damage all the way out 25km+

Is it more profitable to refine alloys/compounds and sell the minerals or is it better to sell them themselves.
Depends upon the items themselves, why don't you check eve central yourself
See how much the alloys/compounds sell for, the see how much the minerals sell for, then pick whichever one has the higher profit.

was playing around with ye olde drake fit, trying to get something a little bit more to my liking. I know this would work for ratting easily, but my question is whether the minimal speed tank makes up for the loss in buffer. Because I really like the DPS and speed on this fit.
It has a big signature radius
Drake = massive sig radius
Yes
Drakes always have a big signature radius.

This isn't a much of a glass cannon as something like a Brutix, but it does nice DPS while having more of a buffer.

Great reasoning.
I have been in several alliances, and each one would not allow you to join fleets in a drake, not to mention everyone laughed at you if you turned up in a drake for a fleet.

That's fucking stupid. HAM Drakes are good for small gang/solo stuff, and HML Drakes + Scimitar gangs are quite effective.
