My respect for Notch just upped a bit.
Me too.
I still have a bad feeling notch is doing this just to boost his image, but yeah I guess it'll be nice to see a new Psychonauts.
I have a bad feeling Notch is doing it because he likes the first game and wants to donate money to help the second one become a reality. owait
I will never understand the bloated amount of hype for that game.....
Well you see, once upon a time there was this company called Rareware. They made numerous awesome games for the SNES and the N64. Everyone loved them. Then something happened and they moved away from Nintendo and started making games for the X-Box. Then they bit the finger off of a hobbit in order to take back the One Ring, and plummeted into the caldera of a live volcano.
YES. YES. YES.
If this happens I will mail a hand-made card to notch, apologizing for all the mean things I said about him ruining minecraft. Also for hating him up until the release of Psychonauts 2.
My theory is that Notch still has the mentality of a small-time indie dev while being a big-time multimillionaire. This is both good and bad. The bad part is that he doesn't have that much devotion and is lazy at times. The good part is that he cares a lot about his fans and is playful enough to throw his fat stacks of money to whatever cause he likes, like for instance how he's donated several thousands of dollars to the Humble Bundles or how he here gives loadsadosh to a developer because he wants a game to be made. The good thing is that he realized the Minecraft development stagnated and gave the job to a more devoted dev who can give the game the polish it deserves. So now everything is fine and people still hate Notch and the whole of Mojang for some reason.
Let's hope he makes this happen, makes even more money and will continue funding other games that publishers refuse to take on.
Why would it be Notch's fault if Tim declines?
Why would it be Notch's fault if Tim declines?
Because from what I can gather, no longer updating a game that's finished makes you evil. Or something. Boxes inbound.
I see it now, 5 years in the future... "... and this is how Mojang became a major publisher, catching up with EA and Activision fast..."
If he could fund both this and Freedom Fighters II, I would be the happiest man on Earth.

And Mr. Scorpio's heart grew three sizes that day.
If Psychonauts 2 isn't going to be announced at E3 this year I'm going to be really fucking disappointed.
I've still never played Psychonauts. Time to remedy that.
Because from what I can gather, no longer updating a game that's finished makes you evil. Or something. Boxes inbound.
It isn't finished. There's still a fuckton of bugs, half the content he said he'd add hasn't been added, etc.
Oh god, if this goes through it will literally be one of the best things the internet has done.
It isn't finished. There's still a fuckton of bugs, half the content he said he'd add hasn't been added, etc.
Sure, but that's why it's still being updated. If you've seen the newer snapshots you'd see that Jeb and Jon are hard at work removing all the bugs.
Sure, but that's why it's still being updated. If you've seen the newer snapshots you'd see that Jeb and Jon are hard at work removing all the bugs.
The point is that people disapproved of what a mess the dev considered the "final version" when it doesn't feel final in any way, shape or form. It's displayed as a final product with full price, but is still treated like the old Beta version.
This is the best thing I have heard all week.
Changed my avatar. I'm on the edge of my seat every time I see there's a new tweet.
While I appreciate what he's doing, I'm afraid Mojang is about to overextend itself quite badly. I know Notch is rolling in cash at this point in time, but he seems to be throwing money about willy-nilly and I'm afraid he's going to bankrupt himself at this rate. Mojang has made one game to date, and it caught on due to its simplicity and approachable, unique gameplay, but it's not going to be a financial crutch forever, and unless their other games become popular as well, there's going to be little money going in. I don't want Mojang to fail as the independent developer scene is growing rapidly, and for better or worse, a lot more people are making games without the heavy-handed approach to gaming that publishers tend to assume. Mojang didn't revolutionise gaming, but they sure as shit showed people that as long as a game's mechanics are good, then you don't need incredible production values for it to be enjoyable and a commercial success.
If Psychonauts 2 isn't going to be announced at E3 this year I'm going to be really fucking disappointed.
Well as of now, they have to go through all legalities and designing before even starting to create the game. If it goes through, it wont be done for a couple of years.
Because from what I can gather, no longer updating a game that's finished makes you evil. Or something. Boxes inbound.
Minecraft is finished?? good joke many laughs
looking forward to this, hope it all works out [editline]8th February 2012[/editline]
Because from what I can gather, no longer updating a game that's finished makes you evil. Or something. Boxes inbound.
"finished"

I hope this works out, and sells a lot, so notch/Tim can make even more money, and fund Grim Fandango 2 :v:
Let's hope he makes this happen, makes even more money and will continue funding other games that publishers refuse to take on.
Cue System Shock 3 (Yes I know some company or another owns the rights to it or some shit) also firefly season 2 plz notch
