While I appreciate what he's doing, I'm afraid Mojang is about to overextend itself quite badly. I know Notch is rolling in cash at this point in time, but he seems to be throwing money about willy-nilly and I'm afraid he's going to bankrupt himself at this rate. Mojang has made one game to date, and it caught on due to its simplicity and approachable, unique gameplay, but it's not going to be a financial crutch forever, and unless their other games become popular as well, there's going to be little money going in. I don't want Mojang to fail as the independent developer scene is growing rapidly, and for better or worse, a lot more people are making games without the heavy-handed approach to gaming that publishers tend to assume. Mojang didn't revolutionise gaming, but they sure as shit showed people that as long as a game's mechanics are good, then you don't need incredible production values for it to be enjoyable and a commercial success.
I agree, especially since Notch has already demonstrated plenty of times that he doesn't really know how real life works he wanted to settle a lawsuit with a game of Quake and he spends all his time on vacation...

Comeon. Are you really that sensationalistic that you can't see beyond the headline? Do you even process and analyze the shit you read?

It's like he isn't stained by games industry bureaucracy yet. He's indie after all and obviously that's how he behaves. He wasn't making Minecraft to make a company and make money of it.
and yet he wants to fund a game, which requires business skills, not java coding skills and a neat idea.
What's wrong with that? If I had the money, I would go off on loads of massive holidays.
Because he has a game to (still*) finish. *STILL
and yet he wants to fund a game, which requires business skills, not java coding skills and a neat idea.
If by business skills you mean having his lawyers draft up a contract.
and yet he wants to fund a game, which requires business skills, not java coding skills and a neat idea.
First and foremost that requires money, which he has. Anything else he need, he can either hire someone or ask Tim for his plan.
If by business skills you mean having his lawyers draft up a contract.
are you saying that he should just throw money at the developers, regardless of what they are doing? what if they end up showing him absolutely shitty designs and early stages? shouldn't he figure out a way to get the project moving again? Or should he just let his money all waste away because "hey, it's psychonauts 2!!!"

He can do whatever the hell he wants with it, as far as I know. He could use it to get more vacation, but he's using it to finally put a end at that GOD DAMN CLIFFHANGER. Seriously, psychonauts 1 was good, but they ended it on such a sour note. If you played Psychonauts, you definitively know why everybody wants a sequel.

And they managed a first great game - and this second isn't going to have any pressure from outside sources to change at all.
he sure can, I'm just saying I don't think this will end well
Well, you know, I doubt Tim Schafer (Or Double Fine, for what matters) would waste the money Notch gave them. I'm pretty sure they always wanted to make Psychonauts 2, but didn't have the fund to do so. I'll take the optimistic approach here, but I really want to see how this works out, and I really want to see a psychonauts 2, as well.
So I bought Psychonauts and I just beat the [sp]milkman conspiracy[/sp]. This is the greatest video game I've ever played. Ever.
The problem is doublefine wants to work on their adventure game right now, not psychonauts 2
he sure can, I'm just saying I don't think this will end well
So basically you're saying that Double Fine is incompetent and Notch should guide them? I mean, if anything, it would be Double Fine's fault if this flops, not Notch's inability to manage a project or something.
Double Fine have a Kickstarter Not for Psychonauts 2 though
Holy shit, 130k in 2 hours.
I just finished Psychonauts again. Second time, I think. God I fucking love that game.
I'm on my forth or fifth time through, my favorite game of all time.
almost 250k holy shit internet
nearly 300,000 dollars in six hours
We must give them ALL THE MONEY.
...6 hours later... WE'RE AT 650K, HOW DO WE STOP THIS, FUCK.
WE PASSED THE 300k MARK! They can now start making the game! [editline]9th February 2012[/editline] Holy shit, passed $400,000! They passed the goal!

Holy shit we're on the 580k mark. I wonder, Tim said in the video that adventure games seem to be dead. He obviously went into this with a little bit of doubt, and probably expected to reach $400,000 within the span of a month. Instead he gets $581,000 in a DAY. He must have shit himself.
Just woke up and saw the kickstarter page. Jesus tapdancing christ guys, well done. They should've done this sooner.
