The average giveaway right now gets about 600 entries. That means you've got a 1 in 600 chance of winning. Newer games like ME2 are getting over a thousand entries.
Now imagine that publishers start giving away games. You're going to get giveaways with a few hundred thousand entries. That won't be fun.

Why not fun? Someone will still get those 50 copies. It would be best to limit the number of slots, but then again, that won't be fair, everyone should have a chance at winning. Only thing I could probably agree on is closing raffle half a day before it ends, so there won't be last sec jump ins.

Yeah but if other publishers will use this? I don't think separating them like this is a good idea, already a lot of backlash from this Origin/Steam thing.

People are complaining that they've entered 100 giveaways and haven't won (which is stupid anyway, because the chance of winning is generally worse than 1 in 100). Think how mad they'll get when they have to enter a few thousand or whatever before they win.
