I downloaded the proper Mac version and installed the tileset manually, and it's going slightly faster. It's not that fast though, its been on the Ages for about 30 seconds now. Edit: "Offloading Units" goes up around 10 per second. [editline]06:40AM[/editline] I want to build this. [editline]06:42AM[/editline] How does this look? [editline]06:43AM[/editline] Actually, I think I found a better one. Thread needs more pictures. Specifically of people's fortresses. Preferably ones that actually belong to you. I want to see what you forum goers are capable of, not pictures of other people's that I could find on other websites.

The stuff that's there is what you get for free. You can remove the anvil and you'll get 1000 points to spend on other things. I don't recommend it though.
I was trying to get an anvil... after setting up basic dwarves and the items you see there's no way for me to get an anvil. I actually have 343 points left after doing the recommended dwarfs somewhere on the first page. Edit: I'm dumb. Disregard.

That's not a great idea for a relative new player, and I wouldn't recommend it.

I like the idea of a fancy waterfall pyramid though.
I found a nice site with no aquifers and decent other attributes. In other news, The Ultimate Graphics Pack.
Mayday is the king of tilesets, I think.
Right I find a real nice place for a fort, its like a valley going into the mountain, like this:
######### #### ### ### #### ## ####
Well sorta, bit it means that I have to dig for ages to find a place to build farms, cause all the ground is rock. :( Time to start again. I also found out that reducing the size of the area you embark to raise's FPS! YAY!
I also found out that reducing the size of the area you embark to raise's FPS! YAY!
Isn't that kinda obvious? :v:
Wasn't for me, until I thought about it long and hard. For Miasma, could you build like a chimney so all the miasma comes out the top?
Wasn't for me, until I thought about it long and hard. For Miasma, could you build like a chimney so all the miasma comes out the top?
for miasma here's a tip: miasma can't move diagonally.
Are hostiles, such as goblins affected by miasma? I just had the idea of using miasma to make the goblins unhappy.
Seeing as how they never eat or drink when laying siege I doubt it, but it may be fun to do just for the look of it or for (in)humane treatment of prisoners.

Current Crystal Stockpile: Blue Sapphire x8 Variscites x10 Lace Agates x2
Wasn't for me, until I thought about it long and hard. For Miasma, could you build like a chimney so all the miasma comes out the top?
You gave me such an awesome idea. Place the captured goblins in the refuse room :D

[editline]06:37AM[/editline] Ugh, what the fuck. How come when I save and exit out, I load up the save and some stuff is missing? Like when I saved I had a room with a well in it, and now the room is there, but it doesn't have a well, or any of the channels that I dug in it anymore.. I don't even know what else could be missing.. Can monsters break down floodgates and constructed walls?
Can monsters break down floodgates and constructed walls?
Not constructed walls. Certain monsters can break down constructed objects like doors, floodgates, tables, statues etc etc but not walls. Which monsters are you talking about?
Can monsters break down floodgates and constructed walls?
http://dwarf.lendemaindeveille.com/index.php/Floodgates
Using floodgates to halt or reroute enemies must be planned carefully, as large creatures such as Trolls can destroy floodgates. One solution is to use a bridge over a channel. It can still be controlled by a pressure plate or lever, but prevents trolls from ignoring your carefully planned defences.
Not sure about the walls.
http://dwarf.lendemaindeveille.com/index.php/Irrigation Didn't think of that? Or did you think it would take more time than finding soil just by digging? Or maybe you had no water? Anyway, things like this make me love this game even more, there are so many possibilities..

I've only been attacked by goblins and kobolds so far and they can't get through my gates made of floodgates so I haven't lost to a siege yet. After almost a decade my fortresses has all they need and I get bored of them so I kinda hope to get defeated at some point, but not without a fight. I've read that goblins sometimes bring trolls, how long/big of an army does it take before they bring the trolls? The biggest siege I've experienced was almost 100 goblins.
I love the freezing cold. It makes the place all flat and stuff.
Glaciers are the best ever. Especially with volcanoes. Ice fortress :D

I played this ages last night; until 5 in the morning. Didn't do anything interesting whatsoever, except build a ballista. Then I got bored and tried to kill all my own dwarves with it. What's the best way of learning the game indepth? Would it be following Captnduck's tutorial from the beginning to the end?

Before I even opened the game, I watched every single episode (More than 6 hours..) and then, after watching all of them, I played the game, and it was really easy to get into after having watched all of it.
I never did learn how to use pumps.
