I use ctrl+5 and shift+5 to go up and down levels.
Another question. I want to assemble my squads again. How do I demote everyone?
Another question. I want to assemble my squads again. How do I demote everyone?
Press enter twice on the members.
Im so fucking confused. I messed around with this army shit and now im missing my carpenter and my miner wont mine what i want (i have no fucking clue where any of them are) and a bunch of other people. Also how do i assign people to be metalsmiths and crap? I want to make workshop but it says i need a metalsmith. Also same with jewelcrafter, mine died because my room was too small.
To adjust the labour options of a dwarf press v then move to the dwarf you want to edit. press p then l to bring up the labours screen. Adjusting a solders weapon can deactivate woodcutting/mining as woodcutting needs the axe so any other weapon will remove that labour and miners should be 'unarmed' (they keep the pick and use the mining skill in combat).
WHY CAN'T I FIND METAL I just find some shitty gold or stuff like that.
Just make everything out of gold :frogc00l:
Eh, hauling an armor made out of gold would be a bit stressful in a battle situation.
Are you after any metal of a specific metal? if it is any just dig around more (cover a large area) on most z levels. if it is a specific one try using the any metal method only in stone the may have the metal. Your map may not have that metal also the ore of that metal is NOT listed as metal ore (there are a few exceptions) and your map may not have that metal on it. You want it for weapons/armour? look for hematite/copper nugets. Import what you can't mine and melt goblin iron later.

I did find a small patch of copper next to my entrance, but that's it. [editline]03:12AM[/editline] Who's this guy who keeps changing prices? Should I get rid of him? [editline]03:21AM[/editline] Fuck I accidentally seized a shitload of stuff fuck fuck fuck how is this going to backfire
Is there a tag that makes dwarves not being able to wake up from sleep? Wake up, dwarves!

I offer them some even price, and they want more. So I let them raise the price. Then they just keep asking for more. Seriously, what the fuck.
Fuck I accidentally seized a shitload of stuff fuck fuck fuck how is this going to backfire
If you seize the traders stuff once or twice they won't do anything. But if you seize it every single time eventually they will start attacking you. But that takes a long time, usually I always seize the elves' stuff and they've never attacked me.
Is there a tag that makes dwarves not being able to wake up from sleep? Wake up, dwarves!
Depends on what happened to them. View Wounds is the keypress sequence to view injuries I think. I've got some dwarves that have been bedridden for two years now after a berserking jeweler got ahold of them during the big famine. If you have your carpenter build some buckets, a couple dwarves will tend to your injured periodically. And put some statues in their room or something so they won't be sissy babies when they wake up. One of mine was the bookkeeper for the fortress and I had to take away his title when I figured out what was up. He wouldn't stop throwing tantrums in his bed after that... Oh, and U to view a list of occupants including animals, C to zoom to that occupant. At least on mine. From the Military screen, Enter starts the promote process. It creates a squad under the dwarf that was highlighted when you pressed enter, and will keep promoting under this dwarf until you press space. To get dwarves out of a squad, press space to get out of promote, go to a dwarf in a squad (his name will be indented over) and press enter twice. You can then activate and deactivate them independently of the rest of the squad. Remember to press space when you're done.
I mean these guys are just sleeping regularly and they just don't wake up. I put the [NO_SLEEP] tag for the time being. Also, is there a way to find out how someone died?
Yeah i randomly find dead bodies sometimes. It's really quite weird. Like i found a dead body in the mine i was building for a graveyard and for gems, it was some random immigrant peasant. And another time my jewelcrafter was dead and rotting up my dining hall.

If not then other than looking around the body for broken off pieces you can't.
I need to do something with all these bones and skulls. I have enough crossbow bolts for a whole civilization. Is there a way to convert bones into metal using the reaction text?
Alright time to start a new fort. My one night adventure was a great learning experience, but this time I'd like to plan it out and have some creativity in my engineering.
I was going to start developing a game, but then I found this. Ya, that's not going to happen for a while.
I spent 5 seconds to throw together an icon so that it would look decent on the dock. Credit for the sprite goes to Mike Mayday. HE'S GOT A FUZZY SHADOW AARRGHH Nice work.

My butcher got a mood and demanded shell and leather so I uprooted half the damn fortress building the shit to shell turtle and slaughterbutcherskintan yak, and he ended up making an earring. Just one. And now he's decided he's a bone carver. Which I guess is good because my fortress is littered with dwarven skeletal remains. Do elves like bone crafts?
My industrial level is coming along nicely, started about an hour ago.
I only use stone stockpiles for ore storage and moving stone closer to the workshops when I only want them to produce a specific type of block for mega-projects.
I heard there was a way to make bone into wood.

Anyways, the top of that pond is 2 z-levels up, how much am I going to have to channel out for it not to overflow? I'm just trying to have access to water without running outside to the river. Edit: Got it, will screenshot once the overflow dries up. Got it hooked up to an underground river, but thanks to everyone taking a break my flood wasn't what you might call controlled. At the rate my broker is going I a going to have to have him relocated to the bottom of the magma river, he just mandated bronze items and demanded a green glass throne. Is there a way to make stone that has been turned to dirt by plant growth back into stone for smoothing? (use of utility's are OK)
