Dwarf Fortress - WHAT ARE ALL THESE CATS DOING HERE - Games

At 7x7 all i can say is that is a HUGE site. I hope your computer can handle it. I think it may be a good idea to use the embark anywhere tool and shrink the vertical size of the site (loose 2-3 of the bottom). Otherwise it looks like a feature rich site. By the way, what is the biome that i just suggested cropping out?

My Dwarf Fortress keeps crashing, causing the screen to black out temporarily then come back on, although the program screen is grayed out and unresponsive. I'm on 64bit Vista.

DF can be very demanding on system resources are you running other intensive programs in the background? What version of the game are you running? If you are running 40d12 or 40d13 try downgrading to 40d10, or 40d and see if the problem persists.

I have a few tabs of Firefox open at the same time, AIM, and Steam, mostly. CPU usage was about 70%.

OK your background apps are not the problem. And I know the game works in a 64bit OS.

I'm on Vista premium 64 bit so that can't be the problem

Today we arrived to the site, which was named Kogankosh, or "Boatslaughter" by the baron of the area in his infinite wisdom. I don't see anything related to boats in this area at all, but it sure has slaughter capabilities. Up in the northeastern area, there is a small chasm that leads into the depths of the mountain, and spews out many kinds of creatures. Next to it, is an open magma pipe which will power our metal production. The scouts say that the area has large quantities of flux stone, so hopefully we can set up a steel industry. On the southeastern corner, there is a barren desert with almost no other vegetation than some giant cactuses. We must trade for wood. I am now sending our miners, Udil and Solon to dig a small secure lodging and set up our mason and mechanics workshops so we can have build traps for those creatures from the depths. One last thing which I must not mention to anyone. While conducting the rituals for safe travel, the oracle saw visions of great treasures and terrible creatures in the far west.
