Dwarf Fortress - WHAT ARE ALL THESE CATS DOING HERE

I was randomly generating names for my dwarves/fortress, and settled upon the awesome "Subtle Lantern of Domination" for the group name. I was having trouble with the fortress name until "Oarchasm" came up.
Oarchasm.
Great name or greatest name?
My fort. I merged the Z levels together for the map.

I started off by using play now and took it head on. I didn't prepare anything.
Although I did lose one dwarf to a carp at the start, it's going nicely.
No bedrooms?

Migrants starve outside until I set up the drowning traps.
Well that's interesting, my leatherworker went into a fey mood but there was no leatherworks for him to claim, so he just stood around for a while before going berserk, at which point my no-skill recruits actually threw him into the wall and made his head, arm and leg come off.
None of the recruits had any tough/agile/strong flags either.
Will the dwarves (when they feel like it) haul his corpse and bits to a refuse stockpile? It's not very nice looking at a statue garden when there's dead people making a stink.
You need either a stockpile graveyard or coffins. They wont take him to the refuse pile.

How 'bout Gulfclasp?
I love that name, my age-old fort had it. Gulf and clasp fit so well together.
One of the fort's artifacts:

My hunter just killed a fire imp.
WITH A WOODEN BOLT.
And now he's trying to return the kill with a broken leg.
No wait now he's on fire.
Yeah he's dead now.
Is there any warning between you chopping one tree too many and getting raped by elves? My military's a bit piddling at the moment, and there's lots of uses for wood, barrels, bins, beds, charcoal, ammo etc. The elven trader that came didn't seem that pissed off about trees and didn't say anything about a limit, but he got angry when I tried to trade a bin and didn't want to trade after that.
Maybe I should spam a few stone-fall traps near the entrance in case.
They attack with wood weapons so it shouldn't be a big problem if you have a few skilled soldiers.
I added some bedrooms and stuff.

They also have bowmen, and unfortunately no amount of skill will save a soldier from tons of arrows. Only really, really good armor and luck can do that.

I think high agility allows them to dodge arrows.
Also, what's a good way to increase a room's value without engraving?
Building the noble's quarters in the sky battleship.
Since everything is a construction I can't smooth or engrave anything
Bloody nobles.

Legendary wrestlers dodge arrows.
That's why I always train my military to be legendary wrestlers/shield users before training them in anything else. They also use their shields to block arrows.
They still can't take on a squad of bowgoblins but they can dodge some arrows.

Statues?
Can someone help me on how to make weapons. I made a bunch of charcoal, I used the smelter to make some platinum bars but at the metal smiths the only options to make wepons were iron, bronze silver, but non of the bars I had in my fort. What do I do. How can I obtain Iron or these other weapon approved metal bars?

Nobles will like statues engraved with jewels, high quality furniture such as a well made bed and cabinet. A wepon rack with weapons will also impress him.
Make things out of gold, platinum etc.

The wrestling skill determines how good they are at dodging stuff. Shield skill is useful too.
I'm thinking about making a superjail style fort, any ideas on getting it to work?
Start by making the fortress. put the nobles under a mist generator and slaughter several civilians without buring them. Tantrum spiral(s) should follow and they will get arrested.
fucking christ, just started a new fortress, had a volcano RIGHT FUCKING NEXT to where the wagon started, quickly burrowed into the mountain and got enough stone to build a wall though, about halfway through building the wall a fucking fire imp lit the field on fire and killed everyone but my miner who were still digging.
Got some migrants. One went mad and went on to chase cats then chased and killed a dog and some guys.
How do I clean up blood?
In short, I have a metalsmith with a mangled left lower arm and a miner with a mangled lower body, right upper arm, right upper leg, left lower leg and right foot.

You can see volcanoes on the starting map. Why were you so surprised?

Maybe twas a magma pipe?
I knew there was a volcano, that was why I picked the map, I just wasn't expecting to start RIGHT NEXT to the volcano and get incinerated in less then five minutes.

Blood in your fortress will be cleaned by idle dwarves, and blood outside will wash away when it rains.
Quick question: Can you irrigate constructed floors?

Try it and find out?

I think you can. Never tried it though, not sure.

Sweet, now my battleship can be almost entirely self-sufficient.
Any good ways to control a large group of dwarves schedules? i.e. eat at the same time. Also is there a way where I can make an item shoot, where someone can drop an item down a level and other dwarves can get it w/o them changing z-levels?
