Dwarf Fortress - WHAT ARE ALL THESE CATS DOING HERE
1,002 replies, posted
Hey guys, I've got a bridge and a lever, and the lever doesn't want to link to the bridge. I select the lever in Q mode, click E to link up a bridge and it says there's nothing that can be linked up. Bridge is outside, crossing a moat, lever is to be fair quite a distance away inside a cavern room, but still on the same z-level. Why doesn't it want to link the bridge? Too far away? Not enough free units of mechanics?
How many mechanisms do you have?
Sweet, now my battleship can be almost entirely self-sufficient.
we all want some piccies of your flying battleship.
EDIT:
I wonder if there are any collab fortresses going round?
They also have bowmen, and unfortunately no amount of skill will save a soldier from tons of arrows. Only really, really good armor and luck can do that.
Oh no, armor doesn't help against arrows. Masterpiece steel plated champion got almost all of his internal organs pierced by a single arrow, the FIRST one fired in the battle at him, and killed him instantly.
Any good ways to control a large group of dwarves schedules? i.e. eat at the same time.
Nope. Maybe in the future? Why would you want to stop them eating anyway?
Can someone help me on how to make weapons. I made a bunch of charcoal, I used the smelter to make some platinum bars but at the metal smiths the only options to make wepons were iron, bronze silver, but non of the bars I had in my fort. What do I do. How can I obtain Iron or these other weapon approved metal bars?
[editline]01:32AM[/editline]
Nobles will like statues engraved with jewels, high quality furniture such as a well made bed and cabinet. A wepon rack with weapons will also impress him.
Make things out of gold, platinum etc.
You have to find the ores and melt them ;)
You have to find the ores and melt them ;)
What do I do will all this platinum and shit then?
Nope. Maybe in the future? Why would you want to stop them eating anyway?
Superjail.
Everyone else's forts look really nice. =(
I wonder if there are any collab fortresses going round?
None on facepunch at present, those that we tried on any version tended to die by turn three.
What do I do will all this platinum and shit then?
Furniture for nobles rooms, crafts, chains for the jail, bins and barrels. Or even coins.
Shit, another guy went into a strange mood (secretive this time) and he's making pictures of cut gems and skeletons, I've got a load of cut gems, skulls and bones from hunting and mining, what more could he want?
Oh wait he just started making something. Never mind.
i hate strange moods.
i never have that last item they're looking for.
I've begun a new fort. My old one was on my laptop so i had to make a new one.
Lo and behold, unicorns nearby.
Someday this game will be forgotten and buried under commercial FPS junk.
What do I do will all this platinum and shit then?
Platinum for valuable furniture, statues etc. Charcoal to power the furnace. So you will need one charcoal block to melt a certain type of ore and you'll need another charcoal bar to make the weapon/furniture etc...

Haha no way and even if it became a FPS, it would be a very special one.

Anikki is such a nice character tileset. Square as well.
Kind of annoying that the default character set is non-square
I like it more not being square.
I like it more not being square.
How come? I heard it's meant to be easier to read, but I don't like the distortion of objects
It gives nice variation.

Should use the natural color scheme, default hurts the eyes :buddy:
I like it more not being square.
I hate the not square ones. It makes it annoying designating rooms, because you have to count out to make sure you have the right amount.

Alright, It's not done yet though.
I can't get 3Dwarf to work for me.
Bottom level starts on the left.

1st level - Barracks & Quarters.
2nd level - Depot & farm.
3rd level - Quarters, dining area & food storage, water intake from a screw pump tower.
4th level - Noble quarters & more quarters. Also the fortifications at the bottom are where the catapults'll go.
5th level - Workshops & item storage.
And there's going to be 2 more levels after that, excluding the roof.
Also, floor plans

Am I the only one who plays 800x600?
Yes.

Also, my champion dwarves lost their clothes while sparring. How do I get them to wear them?
Here's my one dwarf fortress.

I lol'd at the completely isolated magma forge. That dwarf must get lonely in there.

I'd still take curses over anikki.
Anikki makes everything look squashed up.

Agreed.
I just installed a fresh copy of DF with the natural coler scheme. Is it possible to raise the resolution, because the window is really small.
Also how to scroll down in the menus with the original version?
Am I the only one who plays 800x600?
Nope, I do as well. I personally find it much better.
Although lags like hell on my laptop, but my desktop handles it nicely.
Also I just finished my military tower on my old fortress. It goes from ground level all the way to the top of the map with rooms for the first half and then everything else in the second half. The outer structure is complete but the internals still need work. I'm planning on making it entirely self-sufficient, so that when the goblin sieges begin I can fend them off in my tower and hold out for however long I need. The main body of the fort doesn't matter anymore to me.
Also sieges being with 80 population right? I'm at 70 right now.
