How big does everyone make their noble's rooms?
Nope, I do as well. I personally find it much better. Although lags like hell on my laptop, but my desktop handles it nicely. Also I just finished my military tower on my old fortress. It goes from ground level all the way to the top of the map with rooms for the first half and then everything else in the second half. The outer structure is complete but the internals still need work. I'm planning on making it entirely self-sufficient, so that when the goblin sieges begin I can fend them off in my tower and hold out for however long I need. The main body of the fort doesn't matter anymore to me. Also sieges being with 80 population right? I'm at 70 right now.
I've had sieges at only 40, I think even less.
also in df, usually low fps = slow gameplay Ontopic: I'm creating a dam because I want to.
How big does everyone make their noble's rooms?
Doesn't have to be that big, I had a 4x4 Royal room once thanks to an artifact. Anyhow I give them 3x3 smooth and engraved rooms most of the times.
How big does everyone make their noble's rooms?
Mine are usually 7x5, then smoothed and engraved.
I just installed a fresh copy of DF with the natural coler scheme. Is it possible to raise the resolution, because the window is really small. Also how to scroll down in the menus with the original version?
You can change the resolution in the init file just maintain the aspect ratio or the tiles will be squashed and/or stretched. You can scroll workshop menus with + and - Page up and page down are also useful in the full-screen menus.
How big does everyone make their noble's rooms?
Depends on the pest for me, 3x7 for the Mayer's and sheriff's, 11x11 for dungeon master, 21x11 for barrons and kings get the remains of the strip mines! (41x41)
Okay, I just learned how to NOT make a successful dam where no workers die.
I'd still take curses over anikki. Anikki makes everything look squashed up.
Yeah it's up to you. Just wanted to show the difference. I've hard the taller tiles are easier to read, but I can't stand the vertical distortion [editline]11:23PM[/editline]
I just installed a fresh copy of DF with the natural coler scheme. You need to change the res and grid size (grid size is how many tiles) [editline]11:26PM[/editline]
Also sieges being with 80 population right? I'm at 70 right now.
They start when your fort has attracted 80 dwarfs since you started. So if you had 80 and 70 of them died, you'd still be sieged. I think you can have them earlier if you provoke races like elfs or humans.

Strange thing is that sometimes one elf or a human is attacking together with the goblins.
Oh that probably explains why I got raided by goblins 3-4 times before I got to 80. I believe when the world generates its history, it adds things like 'an elf child was taken' etc. Good stuff. Guy saw dam accident. Went stark raving mad. Rest of my champions pulled through. Anyway, a kid was born. Yay! And another! Yay.

Anyone with some time on their hands want to help a newbie to DF get confident at playing the game? My SteamID is sameiru.
Actual question of relevancy: I've been playing with version 39e until I found out about 40d. When I tried to import graphics and shit from the old version to the new, things fucked up and whatnot. So, is there too much difference between 39e and 40d that makes the latter better than the one I'm currently using? I've tried to read the file changes but I can't understand half of it, and I want to see if the migration is worth it. Also add me to the list :v:
Anyone with some time on their hands want to help a newbie to DF get confident at playing the game? Am I the only one who plays 1600x900?

Holy shit, I think I have got the hang of this game! Is it normal for a camel to sleep in the same bed as one of my Dwarfs? because it's happening, and I'm scared.
Uhm, pets don't sleep. They just hang around near their owners.
old, but I felt like re-posting them since they were lost. Look at the top. Look at the untranslated name of this giant.
Holy shit, I think I have got the hang of this game! Is it normal for a camel to sleep in the same bed as one of my Dwarfs? because it's happening, and I'm scared.
Just because something is standing on the same tile as a bed doesn't mean that it is sleeping.
How do you find the group name and fort name? One of the two is at the top of the z-menu, but i'm not sure which is which.
That has to be laggy as hell.
Well it's the same 6x6 embark size, I can just view more of the screen at once. If I wasn't using the OpenGL version i bet it would lag
I'm thinking about making a superjail style fort, any ideas on getting it to work?
Cage traps to capture the enemies. Dump them in pits(very small drops so they won't die). You can make the cells one person cells or bigger if you feel like it.
In my new fort I'm making a concentration camp.
In my new fort I'm making a concentration camp.
Are you using dwarfs or enemies? If you use dwarfs be sure to always bury them so people don't start throwing tantrums and going berserk.
Okay, I am seriously going to get into this now. What gui and everything would you suggest? I know the basics; I can create a fortress that sustains itself and all the fairly simple stuff.
Although very controversial, Mayday's tileset is clear and easy to use for newbies, I personally use it from the very beginning. Also, posting from an iPod :buddy:.
Are you using dwarfs or enemies? If you use dwarfs be sure to always bury them so people don't start throwing tantrums and going berserk.
anyone who falls into the cage traps.
