My newest fortress isn't working out so far. I incidentally settled near an open chasm, so there's goddamn ratmen and naked mole dogs everywhere, and one of my miners broke his head in a collapse and suffocated.
Can't find a good spot to embark.
Can't find a good spot to embark.
auto-find one?
I prefer doing it manually. I already got one anyway.
Fuck this is so annoying to learn. I just started this with the tile pack and now i can't even find my fucking dwarves. And before i tried figuring out how to make them mine so i can set up buildings underground but i couldn't do it. Gah! They couldn't have possibly made a game with a steeper learning curve.

I'm about to start a new fortress, anyone else spend at least an hour finding a good location and planning the layout like me?
I'm about to start a new fortress, anyone else spend at least an hour finding a good location and planning the layout like me?
Finding locations, yes. Layout? What is a layout? (That's a joke.)
I need to start planning layouts, my fortress's are a mess.
I don't really plan anything yet other than locations. I like laying at a river, and I've now made my very first channel flowing into a 5 z-axis tiles deep "room" My miners fell through the floor twice :v: Both survived though.
How can I move stone off of my stockpiles that aren't for stone? [editline]10:56AM[/editline] Could I use stone/ ore/ whatever later after I have dumped it? I created a 1 tile dump zone, and then designated all this stone in a room to be dumped, so they are taking it to the tile, but will I still be able to use all of that stone? I am thinking I probably wont and would kind of like another way of moving specific stones out of a room. [editline]11:07AM[/editline] Nevermind, found my answer on the wiki! http://dwarf.lendemaindeveille.com/index.php/Stone_management Dumps do work, you just have to claim the stone again.
How do you demolish things like stairs? Also how do you collect stone? I can't build anything out of stone because i don't have any.
I'm about to start a new fortress, anyone else spend at least an hour finding a good location and planning the layout like me?
Not this time around, I got lucky and found a nice spot in like 2 minutes. Took me ages to find a good place on the first fortress though. Bloody aquifers.
How do you demolish things like stairs?
If they're constructed stairs from the b--C menu, then pressing d--n will enable the removal tool (christ I remember most key combinations from my head). And if they're dug stairs, they can't be removed but can be blocked with a floor tile (b--C--f) on top of them.
Any news on when update is coming?
Probably a few more months, sadly. It is going to be fucking amazing though, if you look at everything else that is going to be added.
Tip: do not use wrestlers. they tear each other's clothes off which is a nuisance because it leaves a cluttered training area and your soldiers walk around half geared up. The only half decent thing they can do is twist an arrow that is stuck in an enemy, but they might as well just use a sword
What I usually do is train wrestlers until they're legendary at wrestling and using shields and then train them in some weapon. It's awesome when they dodge arrows.
I'm probably going to play this again (religiously I might add) once the new update comes out. It pretty much fixes every complaint I had about this game.

After playing the game for a while the keys sort of become second nature. :v:
How do you demolish things like stairs? Also how do you collect stone? I can't build anything out of stone because i don't have any.
wat. Okay, just go mine out some rooms, and then I am sure you will have plenty.

Migrants! Let's see... A peasant. Two masons... A blacksmith :v:! Cheese maker, tanner, planter, animal dissector, dyer, milker and herbalist. I hate migrants. --- FEY MOOD. By a MASON! This should go well.
ffffuuuuck, the brook froze over, now all my dwarves are dehydrated. also brb slaughtering puppies for food
Apparently a groundhog got enraged because my hunter killed his mate.
FUCKING SHITFUCKS. I've been trying to start a new fortress for the past fucking hour. Not only can I not find an area with all the shit I need, EVERY time I attempt to start a fort, a FUCKIN CARP or INSTANT CAVE-IN immediately massacres my most important workers. What the shit, I don't even
How do I put specific stuff in a chest?
My mason made this: Neththikthog Vabok Vir, "Balancedrenched the Orb of Humility", a Rock salt Bed. This is a Rock salt bed. All craftdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encircled with bands of rock salt. This object menaces with spikes of Rock salt. On the item is an image of Balancedrenched the Orb of Humility the Rock salt bed in Rock salt. On the item is an image of dwarves in Pyrite. Yaaay. I hate migrants.
