Is it possible to tell my dwarfs not to go on specific land? I don't want them to walk on this part of land while they are making this channel, because when the channel is done, that whole part of land is going to collapse, and I don't want them standing on it when it does...
My mason made this: Neththikthog Vabok Vir, "Balancedrenched the Orb of Humility", a Rock salt Bed. This is a Rock salt bed. All craftdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encircled with bands of rock salt. This object menaces with spikes of Rock salt. On the item is an image of Balancedrenched the Orb of Humility the Rock salt bed in Rock salt. On the item is an image of dwarves in Pyrite. Yaaay. I hate migrants.
My miner/mason just made an alunite bed. =|
Does anyone have a generated world off the newer versions that doesn't suck? I keep generating crap worlds full of crap and carp.
FUUUUUUUUUUCK! Trying to get rid of land is such a pain in the ass!! I made it so this piece was just supported by 1 tile underneath it, and made sure the tile was at the edge so my dwarf had a chance to stand NOT underneath the fucking land that was going to collapse, THEN I set the area underneath the land that was going to collapse to FORBIDDEN, and set the area NOT underneath it as a HIGH TRAFFIC area so that the dwarf would choose the HIGH traffic instead of the FORBIDDEN area, and the fucker goes and stands underneath the land and fucking mines the tile FUCKING IDIOT. Now he is dead. The little fucker. FUCK. Is there a way of doing this shit without my idiot dwarfs dying?!
I don't remember orcs in the vanilla game... Or at least not in the first siege. Two fuckers that got inside after I pulled up my bridge killed everyone.

I think my mason died right at the start for no reason so i couldn't build anything with stones.
How do you demolish things like stairs? Also how do you collect stone? I can't build anything out of stone because i don't have any.
Stone can be mined out of stone layers, that are located on the lower layers of the fort. They are normally grey in colour or generate a message if the dwarf think it is interesting.
Does anyone have a generated world off the newer versions that doesn't suck? I keep generating crap worlds full of crap and carp.
You keep picking spots with rivers right? Tip: AVOID RIVERS if you must have flowing surface water go for a brook instead. It has the advantages of no carp ... ever and wagons can walk on it. It does provide safe fish and is drinkable.

After you've dug stuff out cancel it.
No, I was trying to level out this hill to be level with the entrance to my Fortress, just trying to neaten things up a bit.. It worked, but it put my dwarf count down to 6... And I was using channels over areas that were already mined, but they like to do the channels in the wrong order so that they cut off a chunk and make it fall, and they just happen to be standing on the chunk that falls and they break limbs and such. My mayor/ best minder has resting for a really long time because he was retarded and decided to do what I just described. Cutting himself off on a chunk of land that was "floating" and then it fell, causing him injuries. Guys, can't you filter out those punkass carps somehow? Like letting the water flow through a barred floor or something?
Guys, can't you filter out those punkass carps somehow? Like letting the water flow through a barred floor or something?
Yes. Let it flow through a fortification.
My legendary mason is now spewing out Armor Stands, Statues, Coffers, and Cabinets galore. I'm going to have a lot of good rooms :D. Now I just need a Legendary Gem Cutter and Setter.
I think my problem is that i built my place in a sandy clay area so there are no rocks. edit: yeah i just dug further down and hit rocks. edit: Another question, at the moment my fortress is one level below ground surrounded by ponds and crap. Can i go a level below my fortress and the pond, drain it into there and bring it under my fortress so i can install a well in my fort? How would i go about draining it without killing my people?
I made a fortress with 50 dwarf cap to get a dungeon master and not get any further problems.
I'm surrounded by Hippo's and Carp, everywhere. I love it. I've already tamed a few hippo, and I'm going to make a squad of my military designated to hunting, a few marksmen and a few spears.
If there was it'd be under d > b
I think my problem is that i built my place in a sandy clay area so there are no rocks. edit: yeah i just dug further down and hit rocks.
The rock is on a lower level. To get there:

Press d j then set an area in the fort for some down stairs.
Go down one level (defult is > for the ascii version [mayday's is different])
then press d i to place stairs directly beneath the area you just designated to connect the level above to the lower level
repeat steps 2 and 3 until you find stone (about 4-5 levels below ground)
dig out large rooms in the newly found stone
Edit:
Another question, at the moment my fortress is one level below ground surrounded by ponds and crap.
Doors are water tight when they are closed so you can use them to hold the water back. The trick will be placing a hole in the pond to let it flow into the reservoir. Just only do this with ponds as they have a limited amount of water and thus can't completely flood the fort like a brook/river can.
I think my problem is that i built my place in a sandy clay area so there are no rocks. edit: yeah i just dug further down and hit rocks.
Clay sucks, you can't make glass out of it. I had a possessed glassmaker yesterday and he went berserk due to that.
Okay what the fuck? I am having a problem, let me explain: I built a bridge at the entrance of my fort, it is a draw bridge, so it disappears completely when I pull the lever that I attached to it, anyway, now I want to dig a channel under the bridge, so I pull the lever to make the bridge disappear, and then I try and designate a channel to dig underneath it, but it won't let me? What is the problem? [editline]03:26PM[/editline] Oops, I mean RETRACTABLE bridge.. [editline]03:26PM[/editline] But whatever, I figured out the problem.
Making a fortress completely above ground, out of wood. The elves are going to be pissed.
I'm restarting, because everyone starved. I sent a ton of people to gather plants, and i put down two 3x3 farm plots inside for the mushrooms and the fuckers wouldn't build it so every starved.
Another problem, I have already tried figuring out: I set a huge portion of land to be mined, but I cancelled one block so that the above part wouldn't collapse, but it seems to have been partially mined already, and now I can't designate it to be mined again? Why?

Why do your dwarves look like that? Is it a tile set?
Why do your dwarves look like that? Is it a tile set?
.Jpeg
Why do your dwarves look like that? Is it a tile set?
Uuuhh, I believe that is the vanilla game.. [editline]04:22PM[/editline] I am going to try and do stuff with water.. This will be my first time trying to do anything with water.. Oh God.. Wish me luck!
Hmm... reinstalling DF... gonna give it another shot. I got the basics and managed to make a sustainable fort... but then it got boring.
Uhh, one of my dwarfs has been resting for like, 6 months now, or what I would estimate to be 6 months, it was 2 seasons... And his injury is still on yellow, where it started at.. How do I heal him??
