Because they were also dealing with rampant and wild Xen fauna?
I didn't see much evidence of that fauna. Antlions, perhaps, and a single Icthyasaur. But headcrabs were usually artificially inserted in an area and Vorts aren't wild.
There's/used to be a continuity section on the VDC, let me find it.
My idea of remaster: add achievements (they're already on STEAM) and OB engine, and improve AI.
That's what I mean. There's a recent petition for Valve to hurry it up, especially as they've been on Steam so long. It would be nice to go back to the beginning of the series before Ep.3 comes out (Portal 2 as well? We'll see)
I like the level of oppression as it is, everthing LOOKS sunny and happy, but duck into an alleyway and you'll find a metrocop beating the shit out of a civillian who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. All tbe oppression is covered over, and very well as well ;P
The OP of fail.
Why do you think they are making an Episode 3?
The content they had was too long for one game in Source. They cut HL2 to City 17, and made EP3 Path of Borealis.

What are you on about? Episode Three was announced quite a while ago. They also said it would finish off the story arc started by HL2. http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/halflife2aftermath/news.html?sid=6151796
I'm sick of all this concept bullshit. Annoying fucks like you constantly wish for what seems like a 'perfect' game, without pulling your head out of your ass to realize it already is one.
You ever come to realize that they pulled all that shit for a reason? It's because it DIDN'T FIT THE PLOT. They had over 5 years to figure all this out, they knew what they were doing. Every game has a conceptual phase where they go over ideas to put into it. If you've ever looked back in history to other games (Take Starcraft, for example), you'd see that they normally redo the game multiple times to get the right solution.
They had no choice but to sacrifice something, dark atmosphere, or realism. And seeing how realism and physics lead to a fun and enjoyable game, they went with it.
Have you ever had any sense that the game was functional while playing an Alpha map? My guess is no. Even looking at the Missing Information, a lot of the maps around there are more based on looks than actual gameplay, forcing you into unmovable conditions as you sit there and shoot at things from a distance. Jesus fucking christ, you people are stupid.
And in what way is remastering HL2 going to be like Black Mesa is to HL1? They're recreating the looks and gameplay of it, not adding the numerous shitty monsters that were cut out because they eventually had NO FUCKING PURPOSE.
HL2 does indeed have just enough content. Any more of your bawwing and requests for pointless ideas would have ruined it. End of story.
Yeah they cut the Borealis because it didn't fit into the plot. That's why we're never going to see that ship again, no sir, it's cut! Didn't fit!

It serves an entirely different purpose now. They just chose to use the same name as the old cut ship. The original Borealis was supposed to be an intro stage and a method of inserting Gordon into the city. It was far too cramped and introduced too many enemies all at once. Now it's an Aperture Science vessel carrying a vital plot element with a supposed big boss-type encounter inside (i.e. GLaDOS on the floor plans).
there is no need for a remaster when they can add the cut content in future episodes. Like they have already done, to an extent with ep 1 and 2.
Here's my thought. The War lasted seven hours, yet the rebels are kicking the combines but with only you and like 6 rebels and barney. So how did the earth lose with like 6 billion people all fighting the combine? Thats when earth was strongest...
Because most of the Combine left after the war was over. We're only fighting a very small portion of the original invasion force.

You have to consider the original HL's plot also.
With all the portal storms caused by the Black Mesa Research Facility, tons of Xen wildlife such as Houndeyes, snarks, and even Gargs were released, weakening human forces. The Combine were then easily able to take over.
Because they were also dealing with rampant and wild Xen fauna?
And the actual combine armies, not the shitty trans-human overwatch.

They'd have been killed by the combine, kind of incovienient to have them running around everywhere.

Because they surrendered.
It'd be nice to see what they were going to do, regardless of whether it'd work or not. My curiosity outweighs my urge to have fun in the case of the HL2 beta. I just wish it would work correctly.
Exactly why a "remastering" is an alright idea. Sure, it wouldn't be very fun, but it would answer questions. The exact reason why I'd download such a thing.

Fuck off, the Panthereye was fucking awesome.
On-Topic:
I'd really like to see the Hydra again, even if it was a small cameo, something akin to the E3 footage, where it kills a combine/rebel, dissappears, and eat's the corpse...
Or have it killable.
The HL2 gameplay and game it'self is fine as is, it's very fun to play and has alot of replay value (Epically with additions of mods like SMOD) The only thing was realism, even simple things like first person legs because when you start chapter 1 in any version of hl2 your left with a first person view thats completely empty. So you don't exactly feel like your gordon freeman, let alone a human being, until a guy calls you out. Movement models also could've been iproved, the only thing that they removed from quake and hl1 into hl2 was bunnyhopping (which is still very easy to do) and added nothing more.
I'd love to get it OB engine updated. And I also think Bullsquids and houndeyes could fit somewhere. Bullsquids in few parts of the canals, HE in Episode Two.
