I'm downloading the trial right now, the idea of this game is fascinating. I was just wondering if any of you guys have tips for a new player?
Trust nobody. The basic premise of EVE is that so long as the game's engine allows it you can do whatever you want. This includes scamming other players.
I, along with hundreds of others, make my money preying on misinformation. Be wary of that. And when you join a corp, be aware that they are very likely to use you for their own gain and not necessarily your own. This includes getting your ship lost and putting you in the shoes of the "bait" in PvP operations.
I think the coolest part of EVE is how you can control and fight over the land. And you can be a spy and join an enemy corp to secretly destroy their ships ^^

I'm the one who instigated the bad situations.

Then why are you warning us?
why all of a sudden it takes 20 seconds to lock on to an enemy ship in my raven?

I tried this game for like 2 months and couldn't seem to get anywhere. I was sitting there with my little merlin frigate tackler waiting for skills, with no money. Someone should make a simple little tutorial that tells you steps to get out of the noob phase. It does look like good game once you start getting battleships and going into sec 0.0.
praise the fuckin lawd i swear.
i was scrammed twice in two missions and my raven almost blew up in both... im shaking so much from its greatness

Because I like FP

is this outdated?
One thing I'm slightly confused about. Sometimes you get a countdown timer (like a lock on) above your capacitor/module HUD icon, but it doesn't seem to affect anything and it doesn't appear all the time when fighting pirates. What is it?
I think it means that an enemy is locking on to you, be it AI or a player.

I thought that too, but I'm sure I don't see it all the time (when I'm fighting.) Weird.
Maybe I'm just subconsciously ignoring it.

Khem, It's the jamming bar. Means that Player or NPC is jamming you in some way, for example:
1) you target npc and start shooting it.
2) some random npc starts target jamming you
3) but the jamming is over BEFORE you kill all your targets.
that way you think that the bar doesn't do a shit.
Oh, right. I haven't played in a few months :buddy:
If it sounds too good to be true, it's probably is a scam.
Train all your learning skills to at least 4, and Learning to 5.
Salvaging is a good way to make money early on.

This isn't great advice, at least not for your trial period. The first thing you should do is download EVEmon and use that to plan out any and all skill plans you have in mind. Obviously you won't have a flying fuck what you're doing at first, so I'd recommend joining one of the several incredibly helpful "EVE Academy" type corporations. They'll get you started down the right skill path.
Let me explain why you don't want the learning skills to four, yet: Learning skills are useful because they decrease the amount of time it takes you to learn other skills. However, they can take a long time to train themselves. They're not going to save you any time on your trial. You've got twenty one days, make the most of them. It'll take you most, if not all, of that twenty one day period to simply get those learning skills trained up to level four.
Luckily, you've got EVEmon at your disposal. This tool allows you make a list of skills you would like to train, and it automatically calculates the exact amount of time it will take to train those skills. Not only that, it also tells you what learning skills you can train to save time on your skill plan. Eventually you will want those learning skills up to four, and EVEmon will let you know when that time comes.
Long story short (too late): Don't bother with trying to max out your learning skills during your trial period or you won't have any fun. Train them a couple points up based on EVEmon's suggestions, and use the rest of that time to train up your frigate skills. By the end of your trial you'll be able to fly your boat real nice-like.
And join a corp, else its just boring.
Make sure its a big corp or at least active.

The reason you train the learning skills to four first is because if you don't train them while you have 100% speed bonus it'll take a lot longer.

Yeah. Don't give up. I've known countless people start playing only to wuss out within the week, often within the first couple of days. They hate having to actually work and think about what they're doing instead of the standard "OLOLOL PWN DA NPC LOL LVL 2 GOLD ARMR LUTE". Oh also don't shoot non-red things in hisec, ok?

You played the tutorial, right? Right? If not you have no right to complain really =/ In addition everybody thinks battleships are just incredibly cool and once you have one you more or less own the universe, but that's not how it works. They're just more difficult to fit, to fly and only a small portion of those who own one actually know what to do with it. If you need cash, mine. Nothing to stop you mining =P
Hit me up ingame if you really want. FP name minus the underscore. =D
Dammit, I completely forgot how to play this..
Time to try out the newly evolved tutorial from the recent expansion.
im trying out the Steam 21 day trial of Eve..i find it really hard to get in to..Seems a bit overwhelming at first
and only a small portion of those who own one actually know what to do with it.
I wouldn't say that...Take the Megathron for instance. Most people know to slap a buffer and neutrons on it, hit approach, MWD then activate guns when in range of whatever you want to shoot. Or am I misunderstanding you?
