I'm interested in playing EVE, and I was wondering if it's worth getting a joystick or a gamepad?
If so, are there any you would recommend?

EVE Online is AMAZING. I am into my fifth day playing it and know the ropes pretty well. I am hooked. One you've been playing for about 6-12 months, you will have so much ingame money that you can just buy PLEX (pilot liscense extenders) in the market which add an extra 30 days of gametime to your account. That's right, getting fairly rich in EVE means you dont have to pay monthly for the game anymore. (they go for about 200mil to 600mil.)
Rabidtoaster you cant use a joystick or gamepad, it is all mouse. Fortunately there is an overview menu in the corner to help you select enemies since it is hard to do manually sometimes.

A month. If you join a corporation and get mining deals you can probably get 200mil quite easily. I think.

I saw some guy today advertising a PLEX on the market for 200mil so if you are REALLY LUCKY you COULD find one for that price. Even still, 500mil (avg plex cost) is pocket change for some of the people who have been playing a few years and are in a good corp. Corps have been known to lose 500 billion in many wars etc. In the EVE news today, it said that 200 capital ships were destroyed 2 days ago (July 2nd) in some epic battle in nosec space.

depends on what you start with

If you are lucky and start with mining 4 or 5 (i started on 5), you can get into a mining barge rather fast. in a retriever it should take about 2/3 weeks of mining to get a plex.

I'm done with the tutorial and I'm starting to do some missions in the Business career. When I complete this mission I just did I get a Bantam ship. Should I sell it and buy a Merlin ( I can afford it, I have like 350k when I complete the next mission, or should I stick with the Bantam?

The Blackbird is an ECM ship, so fit as such. It's also not a solo ship. Here's a better fit.

I used to fit an LSE2 when I flew a blackbird in gangs. It slightly lowers your ECM ability but it makes you less of an easy target from snipers. It boosts you to about 10k EHP (no rigs) which is enough to either get out or jam whoever is targeting you.

While ECM can be your tank, if you're fighting a reasonably sized gang there's no way you can lock down every target who could shoot on you, and you need a buffer just in case.
