Indeed, I've been here four or five years and I'm at ~110 dwarves, 45FPS.
I'm at like, 55ish FPS with 125 dwarves. Fourth year of the fortress.
So one of my dwarves fell and terrible, killed a dwarf, then started working on something in the mason workshop, should I be worried? :ohdear:
[editline]12th April 2011[/editline]
Update, he made a bone necklace out of the dwarf he killed :v:, he is now a bonecarver.
So Facepunch, what does your fort look like at the moment?
Here's mine: *picturs*
I'd like to see how other people set up their forts.
All the explanation is in the pictures.

That rock chute thing sounds cool as fuck.
[editline]11th April 2011[/editline]
How can I disable clothes rotting? Sounds like a major issue.
Holy shit, my Baron was standing on top of a bridge over magma. Then he started tantruming and just dropped right into the magma.

Edit: Dammit this sucks.

Rock chute is pretty useful. And an infinite amount of items can be on the tile too, I could mine out the entire map and have it all on one tile. Dwarf magic~
but idk about clothes rotting, I'd like to be able to as well.

pah, nobles.
Is there a way to drop a mob automatically? Like with a pressure plate.
Is there a way to drop a mob automatically? Like with a pressure plate.
What do you mean drop? like down Z levels? Yeah, make a pressure plate, connect it to a bridge that retracts or whatever. (built over a hole of course) when the mob walks over the plate, the bridge should retract and the mob will fall.
Is there a way to drop a mob automatically? Like with a pressure plate.
Yes? I'm pretty sure a pressure plate will work fine.
Anyways I remember having my mayors office have a nice decorated room that has a trap door in the middle of it that goes to hell, with the lever being right next to the mayors desk. All good (elected) dictators need one.

I don't know if this would work, but maybe have a pressure plate at the very bottom that makes the bridge cover back up. It would activate once the hostile falls and hits the plate.
Linked up a bridge to a pressure plate, set it to citizens can activate it(to test it), they walk over it without anything happening :saddowns: what did I do wrong?
Guys, I can't tell if this is the best fortress name ever or the worst fortress name ever.
Fancyraptors.

The ghost tore an entire arm off of my bookkeeper. Good thing he's ambidextrous.

Haha. Nice. I have some random soldier that had his arm ripped off at the shoulder by a forgotten beast. He lived, and now just walks around with a shield.

Find another Dwarf who carries only a sword and tie them to each other.
My artifact, tin serrated disc pretty much single-handedly repelled an entire siege. It chopped a few limbs off and then they pretty much fled in terror of it. had my dwarves chase after them and kill a few though.
Any nice tile sets that you'd recommend? I want something that makes the game pleasing to look at. Bright colors on black tends to get a little painful to look at after a while.
install natural color scheme, you can find it in the wiki
So Facepunch, what does your fort look like at the moment?
Here's mine:
This is the entrance to the fort. Just some walls with two frontal towers and some cage traps.

I like it, although some room shapes are very strange
What's up with the walls inside the stockpiles at the rock workshops?
God damn Elk Birds and Ghosts in my fortress. I can't for some real Fun now.
Tell all your dwarves to stop at the lake and drink. If it worked for the Persians it can work for you.
This needs to be a feature.
God damn Elk Birds and Ghosts in my fortress. I can't for some real Fun now.
I hate Elk Birds so much, all they do is rush into your fortress at the first opportunity and spam you with interrupts.
If that's not the worse part, they're fast, so you have to do some clever doorplay to even get them killed.
What the hell am I supposed to do with all this gypsum, got like a metric fuckton of it but nothing to use it for other than clogging up my storage.

Or a bunch of amazingly agile soldiers :smugdog:
Or marksdwarves.

Plaster powder for hospital.
Is there a way for me to dump some caught globins into a pit so my unarmed nobles can have fun with them? The only way I know is to place a cage and open it with a lever, but is there an easier, pit-friendly way?
I'm starting to get creeped out by this embark.
I just found three dead antman tribes in the third cavern layer, and no visible signs of combat.
just their carapaces in amongst neglected tools and rotting food.

I bet ole' Shelob's been having a bit of Fun.
You need one.
Yeah, making one now, though I still don't get how you make an aqueduct without losing a dwarf.
A goblin just killed my legendary engraver.
Currently sending a squad of untrained, unarmed dwarves to take him on.
He lost both arms to my weapon traps.
