Oh horay, a goblin master thief appeared, killed two of my soldiers and wounded 4 others, and then a squad of 5 goblin invaders appeared. I've now locked myself in running out of food and water, however I'm almost done with my underground farm + infinite water tank. The question is if my dwarves will go berzerk before I manage to supply them with food and water. An update: I had to dig down into the caves below to get water and food, in the meantime a siege appeared outside. To top the shit off there's monsters in the cave that are hostile and bound to fuck me up, I think I've lost.
[QUOTE=Crimor;29127296]Yeah, making one now, though I still don't get how you make an aqueduct without losing a dwarf.[/QUOTE] fill it with walls, and suspend any that you don't want. [editline] [/editline] I appear to have made a grave error. I didn't seal the entry to the magma sea properly, and demons got in through it. my only chance is if my spliffed up masons can shift their arses fast enough to finish two wall sections in time, if they can, then a reclaim may be possible.
[QUOTE=Xed;29118273]All the explanation is in the pictures. *over 9000 9999x9999 images* sup page 76 hope you enjoy my fort taking up the entire screen[/QUOTE] Nice FPS, bro.
Decided that my former desert fort sucked so I started a new one (without a fucking aquifer this time). Scorching desert with a volcano in the centre, for some reason I really like this place.
I got an elf bone short word artifact called "rayraven the sullen lesson" just the usual menaces with spikes of gems and encircled with bands of bone, but I thought that the name was good.

So at the entrance to my fort, I have a retracting drawbridge with a deep hole below it, that I can drop invaders into. (Just for fun, hooooo!) Behind that one, I got another drawbridge which raises instead of retracts, to act like a wall against ranged attackers. So I realise I've built the raised drawbridge in a bad spot and remove it, but I forget about replacing it while they're removing the old one. A few minutes later, I get besieged. By what kind of units, you might ask? Goblin Bowmen. Tons of them. And a few trolls. A gem cutter and an armorer... huh. When I eventually protract the bridge to engage them, I end up losing 5 or 6 military dwarves and the trolls wrecked all but 3 of my workshops and an additional 4 dwarves. Thank you, short attention span. Oh, and one of my dwarves made a coal mug which MENACES WITH IRON SPIKES. Those dwarves really take their drinking seriously.
I am locked in a tantrum spiral. oh well. at least this means I lost on my own terms. [editline] [/editline] My last military dwarf just went berserk. He's kitted out in full steel armour and has a masterwork steel short sword. I'm not holding out hope for any survivors.
Well that's that. My second adamantine-wielding soldier just went berserk after his insane wife killed all eight of their children. Here's hoping that the original warrior I gave adamantine to will be able to stop him.
[QUOTE=Pokey McFork;29128033]A goblin just killed my legendary engraver. Currently sending a squad of untrained, unarmed dwarves to take him on. He lost both arms to my weapon traps.[/QUOTE] Im pretty sure that goblin can still kill them all.
[url=http://stalkermods.com/df/]DF LEGENDS[/url] is a-go. I haven't gotten it working where you can only submit every so many minutes, so please don't spam it. You can use the bbcode for bold, italics, and underline. Images must be jpeg, gif, or png and under 2 MB. Please don't spam it or try to fuck anything up. If you do, I'll be checking the DB to make sure every once in a while.

[QUOTE=Zezibesh;29122608] I like it, although some room shapes are very strange What's up with the walls inside the stockpiles at the rock workshops?[/QUOTE] No real reason to it. I just didn't want a simple 3x3 square room, so I threw in some extra digging designations. Dunno. :v:
Can you use a danger room to train war animals?
[img]http://filesmelt.com/dl/troll11.png[/img] It's a troll. Get it his face has a T.
[QUOTE=SteelReal;29139969]Can you use a danger room to train war animals?[/QUOTE] more like cheating room.
If you are going to bother making a "danger room" then you might as well just install one of those programs that allows you to edit stats and revive dwarves. [editline]12th April 2011[/editline] u filithy cheaters
I have a danger room, except instead of training spears, it's filled with iron and steel spears. A few dwarf soldiers have survived this training method, but I typically just use it as a child and cat execution center.
I use my danger room to train more powerful enemies.
Danger rooms aren't bad, if you can train your dwarfs in every other skill without actually having to fight anyone then why not train those skills too?
I'd imagine being attacked by wooden spears coming out of the floor repeatedly would make someone less fazed the next time a goblin tries to hit them with a pike anyway.
I cheat like an asshole, therefore I am. [editline]12th April 2011[/editline] Also due to this: [IMG]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5293778/happy%20engravers.jpg[/IMG]
How can you play at such a resolution
That res (Isn't that default?) is fine if you hide the key screen. How can you play without the tiles being even? I was fine with it at first, but once I tried a square tileset... man, you can't go back.
My fortress has finally crumbled to it's end. It was a good run, with demons, goblins and titans all vying for a chance to murder everyone inside, in the end the dwarves beat them to it. So ends the story of burngirders, capital of the tongs of shocking, and jewel of the dwarven empire. [editline] [/editline] Time for an above ground desert fort!

The fuck? First 2 of my cats bled to death for no reason at all, now one of my dorfs died in the same way. The only thing I can think about is that they are on the slopes of a volcano, but I don't think that can cause them to spray blood everywhere and then die (the blood trails they leave behind is pretty short, so from when the bleeding starts to when they die is a very short time period). [editline]13th April 2011[/editline] Shit, the fat (and presumably, skin) of two buffalo that are near the volcano is gone, and the cats and dwarf died near the volcano, that pretty much settles it (it has to be that volcano). [editline]13th April 2011[/editline] Any way to forbid dorfs from going to an area? Like a inverse burrow.
Can anyone suggest some good desert-y music for building this fort? [editline] [/editline] holy crap surface sapphires
