What exactly is a danger room? Sorry if I'm missing something.
It's a room where blunt spears repeatedly shoot up from the floor and poke the military dwarves. When you leave them in there long enough they become amazing fighters.
It is frowned upon also right?
Yes, many consider it cheap. But at the moment it takes for fucking ever to train your dwarves so I use them because I'm lazy.
If they trained up dodging and armour while sparring like they probably should, then it wouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately because they can only attack another dwarf and never defend, they need something else to poke them.
In the span of one turn, a stingray dragged me into a river and killed me. What.
I don't really see the problem with danger rooms. In 40d, my soldiers were usually champions just from sparring by the time they saw any enemies anyway.
Getting the most annoying problem atm, when navigating stuff it seems my keys stick or something so I'm constantly forced to the right and it always pushes back to the right, I can move it to the left but it just clicks itself right again. Any suggestions?

orkel why are you awake at 3am posting devlog updates have you been replaced with a robot
I tried to pull a black bear into a pit. Good thing the one pulling him had some armour Still managed to tear his foot open though.
It is frowned upon also right?
Some do, however, another way of looking at it is as soviet-style training.
im getting spammed by insert dwarf name here cancels release small creature need empty trap how do i stop it?
make traps
i have tons of cages animal traps and cage traps every where
I find it really hard to want to give this game a go. It sounds epic but it's the graphics.. I'm sure if I played it back when it was new there would be some nostalgic value to it for me but because of that I don't find it really appealing. Is it worth trying out if I've never played it before? The style of the game just seems way before my time.
I can never find coal(s) on embark sites. Can anyone help?
I just shaved my beard, and I feel undwarvenly now. :smith:
I can never find coal(s) on embark sites. Can anyone help?
Bituminous Coal and Lignite are only in sedimentary layers. That means you can find them in layers comprised of: Sandstone Siltstone Mudstone Shale Claystone Rock Salt Limestone Conglomerate Dolomite Chert Chalk

ASCII != old game
Yeah, those are the layers it can occur in. I haven't found coal on my current fortress's layer of rock salt, either. Anyway, just had a nice fresh wafer of adamantine hot off the smelter to make a new axe. Some child with a strange mood snatched it up and used it to put some spikes on a goose leather toga, with a picture of a goblin on it. My efforts to have the child killed were in vain. I think I'll just assign him to a burrow outside the walls for a few years and let nature take its course.
I got a forgotten beast in my new fortress but this time I killed it! :buddy: Yay me. Also, what do I do with goasts haunting my shit? I got two of them.
I got a forgotten beast in my new fortress but this time I killed it! :buddy: Yay me. Also, what do I do with goasts haunting my shit? I got two of them.
Make coffins for their corpses or engrave a stone slab with their name if you can't access the corpses.

Never mind, I thought you couldn't look at a ghosts Z thingy but you can and now I know what to do with them.
The dwarf who has been laying in the sick bed for 4 months got into a fey mood and climbed to the top of the fortress and claimed a Carpenters shop. Wonder what she will create. Also a baby died of thirst.
Hurrah! The ghosts have been put to rest. [editline]15th April 2011[/editline] FUCK! All my dwarfs who were down in the mining shaft got stuck and now they are dying! A rescue party has been sent. We have to rescue them. [editline]15th April 2011[/editline] Fucking crappy slow beginner miners. Two have died of thirst already. They are working themselfs to death. They will never be forgotten. [editline]15th April 2011[/editline] 3 more have died. This is a disaster. ;_; [editline]15th April 2011[/editline] I couldn't save them. I have failed you all. He died working...I feel so terrible. These dwarfs blood are on my hands now. [editline]15th April 2011[/editline] Why did my police kill my mason who was throwing a tantrum? Those are some harsh rules for vandalism. God damm.
I feel like I'll start building an aboveground colony after my current living quarters fill up, as my fort entrance is kinda like a massive keep, and usually those had a village around them.
