I need help! Nobody is cutting wood even though I have 5 dworfs with the wood cutting labour activated. Also, when they try to get a axe or something, it says equipment mismatch?
What is going on with my game? :(
It fixed itself when I slaughtered some Elfs. Don't know why though.

That's why you get a good skill in throwing. One-shot death rocks.

Great. A single hit by a sword and I my left leg was destroyed. Now I'm a crawling fiend of killing.
[editline]16th April 2011[/editline]
And I was just killed by a fork. How embarrassing.

I just had one hell of a battle. I thought I'd retracted the drawbridge when a particularly large siege arrived, but I forgot, apparently. A few minutes later I saw a dwarven child had been struck down so I went to see what happened. The first wave was already in the keep, and the regular garrison was fighting them off, albeit losing a bit. I immediately called the more elite troops in to join the fight, and the army fought them off all the way back to the border of the territory. I don't know exactly how many enemies were in this siege, but I lost 8 dwarves and my militia commander killed about 20 goblins and 4 trolls.
Here's a zooomed out overview of the battlefield, just so you can see the general battle areas (covered in blood). The cyan tiles are troll blood.

That's a pretty sick moat.
I got back into playing a few days ago. Failed 2-3 fortresses. Then stayed up till 3 am playing this. Anyone have tips on how to find iron? I have prepared magma forges but they are useless unless I have iron. Oh and if there's a ramp to a hole, will that count as an opening for the forges? As in if I channel a hole, can I use the whole for the forges?
Pandas are good for training

and getting rid of migrants
Remind me never to embark in a desert ever again. I was one of the people who were somehow completely pissed that channels left behind ramps, so not being able to clean all this blood, vomit, and broken projectiles is causing severe mental distress. I need rain, damn it! Rain!

Where can I find and how can I download that tileset?
Using Phoebus pack.
I lightened the floor tiles because I thought they were too dark, if you want that:

Oh hooray a seige. First one, and I only got 20 dwarves. The goblins are coming oh god. Survived it with only 4 dead. 3 from fighting and 1 from atom smashing. Feels good, but without traps I would have been done for. Also all my animals are dead save some from an elf caravan and 2 hens and a rooster.

God, the colored tile backgrounds look nasty
Still, nice fortifications and that's a badass moat.
It's less offensive at the normal zoom level. I can't stand every tile having a black background anyway. Just makes me feel like the ground has holes in it or something.
Ha! One-shot cleave with a thrown sword! I proclaim myself Doren Regnir, sword thrower!
Oh god 50 goblin siege. My everything is getting raped. And I have a dwarven caravan that just told me they want to make my outpost an official land of the realm. Oh god this is going to end horrible. The goblins are just volleying me down with arrows. Any ideas guys? I'm walled off for now.
Ok I killed them via atom smashing and cage traps. However, I have about 6 goblins left in a pit underneath the bridge. What is the most "fun" to be had with them?
I battled some baddies, and they killed all my companions. I escaped, but traveled in the dead of night. Boogymen attacked, and I appeared in a small hole about 5x5. I fought off two with mortal wounds, but the rest simply gathered around the hole. I mashed .......... enough that dawn broke and they disappeared.
Most boring 10 minutes of my life.
[editline]16th April 2011[/editline]
Great, something ambushed me in the daytime and I got stuck in another pit. At least I had a companion this time, which I promptly killed out of boredom.
I then gave into starvation. A heroic death. How do you climb walls, anyways?

You can't.
Adventure mode is bare and lacks a shitload of features.
Ok what the fuck, what kind of mandate is "Make billion items 2/2"? And how come my clothier canceled making rope because he didn't have 1000 cloth? Is that how cloth is measured?

It's a silver/copper alloy.
It's a silver/copper alloy.
Ok thank god, I was thinking a generalization of all items, as in making a billion items in general.
also billon bars count as an item, my mayor mandated the construction of three copper items, so I told my metalsmiths to make some copper bars, and as soon as they were done the mandate ended.
I dislike mandates in general, whenever my mayor does this I just shove him into the danger room and take all the military out to see how he likes it.
Does water travel through z levels like this:
z-level 0 XW
z-level 1 WX
X=wall W= water
Would it travel through level like that? Also why aren't the goblins drowning?

Yes, it would. It also helps slow the speed of the water which is useful for preventing your wells from becoming Ol' Faithful.
