I decided to train my new military on a camel I found on the Kill list. It belonged to merchants. Everyone is dead. :smith:
FUN
God, figuring out how to build a pump stack is a fucking nightmare.
God, figuring out how to build a pump stack is a fucking nightmare.
The wiki article explains it quite well imo. http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Pump
I know, I understand the explanation but that doesn't change the fact that my dwarves are dumbfucks and won't realize that walling themselves in isn't the best idea. I already lost one of my starting seven this way.
Dwarves won't stand on a tile designated as a wall. If you don't want dwarves to build from one direction, build a wall there and suspend it. Remove when done.
Silver is not magma-safe. Holy shit. I am the ultimate dumbass.
Now my friend has illustrated how danger rooms work

I'm about to test my ballista-based elf disposing system. Hopefully it will be gory as fuck.

Mine into one and expand it (so that the water level falls down to 1-2. You can check this with K key). Then, build a farm plot (b->p) and sow Plump Helmet Spawns on it (provided you took them upon embarking, you should have)

Am worried of my people staving to death before it happens though.
What was that DF tutorial on youtube that was posted up a while back?
This game is merciless to newbs. :frown:
I'd guess it was this one, seems to be the best I've ever found. There're more just head to his profile to find them or whatever, there's like 50 or so.
This game is merciless to newbs. :frown:
It's just plain merciless. The trick is to roll with the punches. And the stabs. And the hordes of ravening monsters. And the army of manic-depressive alcoholic midgets that you were put in charge of.

Every bite will be the only joy you will receive. Dwarf Fortress must fall to your will!
This game is merciless to newbs. :frown:
You can also try waiting for a dwarven or human trade caravan - they usually carry snacks of some sort. But you do need to get a field - consider moving your whole fortress to those murky pools you've mentioned. Also, if you happen to have a river or a brook (no experience with seas and oceans), you can always rely on fishing. Dwarves need no tools to fish, they do it with their bare hands In other news, I just caught a megabeast into a cage trap, it weighs something like 14000 dwarfgrams. From what height should I drop it to ensure it dies so I can feast on its delicious, delicious meat?
fuck yes
With the construction of sewers drawing to an end comes the beginnings of catacombs. These will twist and turn and mix with other underground structures creating fertile ground for quests and adventuring. We are also going to take some time to include some of the undead types we didn't have time for last fall. Prepare to meet the walking dead, both in adventure and fortress modes. The rest of the features (markets etc.) should be put into place shortly afterward.
CATACOMBS and NEW UNDEAD [editline]21st April 2011[/editline] zombie dwarves in fortress mode I hope!
how can anyone stand these horrid tilesets
You ACSII elitists are ridiculous. I don't bash ACSII because of how basic it is. Because I understand people have different tastes. But then you go ahead and claim it's superior some how, which I fail to see. Graphic sets make shit look like what it's actually suppose to portray. and Ironhand's (the one i'm using) does a really good job of that. I can understand ASCII perfectly, but I don't use it for a simple reason you seem to lookover, it just looks better why the fuck wouldn't I upgrade. I've yet to see a good reason not to use one besides personal preference, and if that's the case I don't give a fuck. Just don't spout bullshit about how ACSII is superior, because it isn't. [editline]21st April 2011[/editline]
Funny how I can understand ACSII but I can't understand tilesets. :v: They look worse to me.
If you can't understand whats in those screenshots, there's either something wrong with your eyes, or your high horse is so high you're in the clouds.
Whoa dude, I can understand getting mad at abcpea but zip was just stating an opinion. tilesets take a certain amount of getting used to just like ASCII.
fuck yes CATACOMBS and NEW UNDEAD [editline]21st April 2011[/editline] zombie dwarves in fortress mode I hope!
I wanna see dwarves rising up out of their coffins, due to being in evil mountains or something.
Whoa dude, I can understand getting mad at abcpea but zip was just stating an opinion. tilesets take a certain amount of getting used to just like ASCII.
Well I apologize if it was harsh. But "I can't understand tilesets" seems like a silly statement. Maybe i'm just used to it but the pictures used to interpret dwarves and animals, etc all look spot on to me. I agree somewhat with "they look worse to me", most do look pretty bad. But Ironhand's shit is p boss. [editline]21st April 2011[/editline] I'm not even upset over their preference for ACSII, the thing that bothers me is that, instead of posting their fortress layouts for others to see, and to ya'know actually contribute. They turned up their noses at the very sight of my peon-esqe graphical choice.
I just like ASCII more because of this simple 16 or so colors and however many symbols. To me all the tilesets seem too blurry, which makes it harder for me to identify what the object is.
