Devlog [quote]Toady One Aside from some general busy-ness, I managed to bump my head up against the wall a bit trying to get the dungeons and catacombs and sewers and underground layers and topography and rivers and buildings to all play nice together, but I think I've got it working now. I need to mess with the dungeon layout a little more and then that'll finally be done. World gen tracks crops of the dead now, numerically and by cause for each site, so if all the starved dead from the last hundred years in a city happen to be raised, it can only happen once, and the catacombs should reflect their populations correctly.[/quote]
Oh man I hope there are "zombie apocalypse" history events caused by wizards or necromancers or something
[QUOTE=Zezibesh;29504449]Oh man I hope there are "zombie apocalypse" history events caused by wizards or necromancers or something[/QUOTE] I hope they don't just occur during Worldgen. I want to be able to make a last stand in Fortress mode and go out Zedhead hunting in Adventure mode.
I hope there are necromancers, once Toady adds magic (especially random magic for artifacts) things will get interesting. I say necromancers because I imagine they'd be quite easy to add into the game; just give them a random lair spawning point in the dungeon/catacombs layer, and give them the ability to raise undead which automatically become companion characters.
You better be able to be a mage without that stupid one use spellbook/runes bullshit.
Magical artifacts sound fun. Just come across a random ring or necklace and put it on without detect magic, boom, your skin is dissolving for some reason. Found a pair of boots, blam, you're flying across the sky for some reason. Sword, oh god everything I touch burns. Etc.
Play as a necromancer amass an zombie army and assault towns.
[QUOTE=Tampong;29508249]Play as a necromancer amass an zombie army and assault towns.[/QUOTE] Every person you kill creates a new soldier for your army! He added unique lairs for Minotaurs, why not Dragons?
Magic and stuff influenced by it is going to be awesome. imagine using it in the construction of a fortress. though i suspect that the wizard you'd get in fortress mode would be a court magician sort of thing and there'd be just the one. there'd be a possibility for runes and such to be placed to allow you to utilize magic without a wizard.
I hope magic can be turned off, I'd hate to see wizards in fortress mode, I like realism so it's gonna be out for me. Adventure mode on the other hand, wizards are going to kick ass.
I don't mind wizards as long as it's not stupid D&D style wizzies But having a powerful but scheming court magician who could do some weather spells etc but was pretty weak otherwise (no personal defense shit like fireball) would be badass.
You should be able to invoke the randomly generated deities and shit by sacrificing stuff.
Armok is the only true god I hope blood becomes a proper liquid soon, I want to make blood cannons and showers.
Blood moats, blood forges?

[editline]29th April 2011[/editline] [QUOTE=Mr_Razzums;29510190]You should be able to invoke the randomly generated deities and shit by sacrificing stuff.[/QUOTE] I always thought you'd only be able to sacrifice if you have the creature/person "in your hands" (aka in the Inventory screen.) This would expand to being able to pick up and throw enemies Darth Vader style. 1. Kick badger onto ground 2. Stab in head So easy. I need to find something to fight other than badgers soon. There is a dwarf fortress to the north, so maybe they have some quests for me.

Another tale of my friend's adventures in Dwarf Fortress: He got rid of all of his supplies so he could make all of his dwarves super-talented craftsmen and miners. They all starved to death.
I recently changed my wood cutter into an axedwarf and sent him off to training, and I need a new woodcutter. I chose a wood burner, but whenever I try to give him an axe, it gets snatched away by some of my military dwarfs. What can I do to prevent this? edit: Now I've seen my wood burner haul axes to the weapon stockpile rather than take one for herself. Goddamnit edit2: I just made it so the military dwarfs couldn't have their own weapons, only ones I assign them. Worked fine, though I just hope my wood cutter doesn't take one of the masterwork ones my weaponsmith just made

Lay it out in a very easy to enter tunnel into your base, and let the molten metal do the work.
I can't wait to see this game evolve over time. My children will be all "Neat, I just helped enslaved antmen free themselves from their human overlords, rewarding me with their most beautiful females. Now I will sail back home and breed a race of atomic superdwarfantmen"
Anybody has a good music playlist for playing Dwarf Fortress? [editline]30th April 2011[/editline] HOLY SHIT I BREACHED IT OH GOD NO [editline]30th April 2011[/editline] There were no survivors. It took 3 years to build up the fortress. And it took 3 minutes for everybody to die it was horrible
apparently i dont have flux stones in my fortress so i cant make anything past iron equipment
I can't wait for magic, as long as it's worked in well. Fireball-spewing magicians attacking in fortress mode would suck.
I finally started playing again last night, and suddenly it was 4am and I'd made my largest fort since 40d. Turns out starting next to a mountain is a lot more fun than starting in the middle of a flat plain next to a river. Status screen: [img_thumb]http://imgkk.com/i/0rk3.png[/img_thumb] Entrance, hospital, barracks, and failed danger room: [img_thumb]http://imgkk.com/i/hbn9.png[/img_thumb] Workshop floor: [img_thumb]http://imgkk.com/i/bvue.png[/img_thumb] Sleeping/dining floor: [img_thumb]http://imgkk.com/i/yzrl.png[/img_thumb] I may have gotten a little carried away with the noble quarters, seeing as I have next to none, but the two that I do certainly love their offices. The triple regular room was for the first married couple, but I moved them into a noble room when they had their first child. My only issue is that I really have no idea what I'm doing with the military or metalworking, as I never ended up doing much with either before now, and with a name like "BristleBolts", I should really be making a ton of marksdwarves instead of locking some poor bastards in my expensive failure of a danger room.
I currently have two minerdwarfs just hanging around doing nothing, one of them is my mason guy too. All my workshops aren't being built and my masons shop has been "suspended". I have stuff ordered to be dug out but they are doing nothing. I have the ironhand set and they are blinking little down arrows. [editline]1st May 2011[/editline] One of them died of thirst, they could've went back up the channel but he just decided to sit down there and dehydrate.

Send in some kittens to brainwash them into the Fortmind.
