[QUOTE=scratch (nl);29694148]do peasants still arive in migrant waves? I want to turn them into soldiers, and they're good for hauling.[/QUOTE] yes but less often
[QUOTE=Orkel;29693983]Devlog[/QUOTE] did i read that bit about animated body parts right? because it'd be awesome to have undead hands scurrying about. especially if they were friendly. but an undead head would make a great football, despite the grumbling.
[QUOTE=Orkel;29693983]Devlog[/QUOTE] Friendly undead? Yes!
would come in very handy if friendly undead can be soldiers, they probably are way harder to kill.
Actually pretty easy if the enemy has swordmen, axemen or lashers. Zombies (current ones) are slow as shit
[QUOTE=Zezibesh;29695565]Friendly undead? Yes![/QUOTE] I'm guessing bug from WIPness
Skeletal soldiers would be quite hardcore however, especially if armored [editline]8th May 2011[/editline] orkel! :arghfist:

Because armored skeletons are badass
zombies might be slow, but they're tough to kill, so you could just use them as defence inside the fortress (or as marksdwarfzombies) [editline]8th May 2011[/editline] How exactly do siege operators works? I plan on adding a ballista.
Use them as meat shields outside your fortress so your marksdwarves can pick enemies off easier. If you could tell your marksdwarves not to shoot the zombies, it wouldn't even matter if they were unfriendly.
[QUOTE=Mr_Razzums;29673897]I'm so picky. Its weird but I like to have a traditional fortress. As in females do the gathering and farming, all able body males are in the military lol.[/QUOTE] I don't even spend time looking who's male or female :v: [editline]8th May 2011[/editline] especially since tilesets make the symbols look like necklaces and whatever.
If you try to pit creatures what determines if they can escape or not?
[QUOTE=Zezibesh;29695911]Because armored skeletons are badass[/QUOTE] And take exactly one warhammer to any part before [highlight]DISINTEGRATING[/highlight]
Shit, I reached the vermin hunting level of hunger, the 3 farmers are doing their best to get enough plump helmets to grow for my 20 dwarves.
You can harvest the local plants by going D -> P and then selecting the ground like you would trees. If a dwarf has the herbalist labor enabled they will go and collect the plants. Some of which will be edible.
where can I find the wood burning labor?
[QUOTE=scratch (nl);29697060]where can I find the wood burning labor?[/QUOTE] Under farming.
I build workshops vertically, carpernters underneath carpenters, masons under masons and so on, it works good so far, but when my fortress gets really busy it might get some problems with people clogging up the 2 stairs per row. [editline]8th May 2011[/editline] I've this craftsdwarf standing in my farm with a strange mood, how can I see what he needs? [editline]8th May 2011[/editline] god damnit, a piglet keeps getting in my farm, and trapping himself deu to the doors being non-pet passable. [editline]8th May 2011[/editline] I'm thinking about getting everyone out of the farm, make the strange mooded dwarf go mad, let him die of dehydration, then bury him. [editline]8th May 2011[/editline] Or drown him.
If friendly undead do make it in, I'll probably just use them as manual labour, pumping, hauling, building. that sort of thing. the sea dome hasn't worked. every time I get it nearly done something stupid happens and it becomes un-doable. last time one of the temporary supports got toppled by a tantrum and brought down the top layer of the mines, causing the dome to catastrophically flood. so sod fortress building, I'm going to dick about in adventure mode for now. i think i might make a mushroom man civ.
Can someone please help? I have a craftsdwarfs with a mood. He's just standing between my plump helmet crops, and there is a craftdwarf's workshop available. Wat do? [editline]8th May 2011[/editline] I can lock him in there if required, he's alone in the farm. [editline]8th May 2011[/editline] he's a bone carver, what animal can I butcher for bones?

Can a fortress still die when you mine too much adamantine? I read it on the wiki. [editline]8th May 2011[/editline] the "too deep" stuff, is that still in the game?

Toady removed the "Dug too deep" aspect.

Usually it will say "Strange Mood Craftsworkshop" or "Strange Mood Bowyer" or somtehing like that. Also if it requires bones then yur fucked because sometimes my strange mood possessed dwarves want dwarf bones :< Also anyone know how to prevent dwarfs from taking more than 1 weapon? My militia commander only uses his spear but he has 3 weapons. Its really badass but he never uses his axe or hammer >_< [IMG]http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/4927/35ac15a6f62dc9ca3669096.png[/IMG] In this photo: My militia commander has a steel warhammer, steel battle axe, steel gauntlet and a copper shield on his right hand. He has a steel spear in the other and prefers to use his spear.
"strange mood glassmaker" :v: God sake Loofiloo. [editline]8th May 2011[/editline] thank you for the help! I had to make a glass furnace at some random spot just for the fucking dwarf, I'll remove it once he's done. [editline]8th May 2011[/editline] He now claimed the workshop, but not doing anything. What must I do?

Make a sand collection zone with "i" and make a leather bag and set another dwarf for glassmaking duty, and make yet another glassmaker's workshop, and order a sand collection job from there.
just genned a world with humans and goblins living together, abandoned fortresses everywhere and such. really weird.
[QUOTE=Pokey McFork;29703589]just genned a world with humans and goblins living together, abandoned fortresses everywhere and such. really weird.[/QUOTE] I've had that happen a couple times. It sucks because usually the entire world is at peace. So no sieges. I can't wait until we're able to wage war on other civs by bringing armies onto the world map.
