I posted quite a while ago on the Bay12 forums about adding travelers to fortress mode. They'd arrive like migrants and pay for rooms to stay in, then leave after a while. They could be from any civilization that's not already at war with yours, and there could be a chance for them to petition to have permanent residency. Would be neat to have the occasional human or... or elf... under your command if you so choose. But in any case, I'd like for there to be more interaction with the outside world. I certainly hope Toady develops something along those lines.
That would be quite awesome, and they also could carry stuff to trade, less then caravans, but enough to trade with them.

Is the game playable atm? I remember when DF2010 came it was so buggy I stopped playing, haven't played DF since then. Should I get back in, have there been any new apps or stuff I need before getting back again? I remember using Dwarf Therapist or foreman or something like that, and a 3D map visualizer.
I love it when you're at pop cap and you can just build anything you want quickly with peasant labour.
Is there any way to collapse an unneeded underground room, or is there any way to just simply 'delete' them?
Gypsies and Gypsy caravans. Their animals eat up the grass, they use your food stores and steal your trinkets when they can.
And move to your trade depot trying to sell it back to you 350% of its original price.
How do I access the 'fighting' screen? You know the one. It's not a fight, but I wanna know how this insane dwarf will kill himself. :v:
They make little towers and send hordes of undead to attack your fortress now. I still need to make a modest effort on their tower maps and make sure the necromancer and buddies are working in all respects for adventure mode. It is good to have masses of humanoid zombies back after some years of absence.
Orkel has been defeated
Ha, half my dwarfs were falling asleep in the stockpiles because I had my bedrooms set as a barracks instead of a dormitory. Now they're all sleeping at once, so quiet. [editline]13th May 2011[/editline] I also brought two dogs and they are both female, so much for generations of war dogs.
I made a waterfall enclosed in glass windows. Everyones PUMPED about the windows. But no one has thoughts on the waterfall. the fuck
shit like this' what makes the game fun as fuck, and ofcourse failing is lots of fun as well.
Fuck.
My exact reaction
Am I the only one who like Adventure Mode more than Dorf Mode?
yes and no, I just like building my own shit more than running around looking at generated stuff. nonetheless adventure mode is not bad at all.
I like Adv mode, but prefer Fortress. Adv mode is fun with a hammer though, crushing lungs is a great way to kill things
I wish you could build stuff in Adventure Mode, that would make it perfect.
"The legendary marksdwarf has hit the kobold in the lower torso. The severed part sails off in an arc!" ....what? I did not just picture a kobold getting his crotch ripped off by a steel bolt :v:
Why is 90% of the map covered in aquifers, they are the easily most annoying thing to deal with.
Why is 90% of the map covered in aquifers, they are the easily most annoying thing to deal with.
Probably an issue with drainage, I remember the more drastic solution was to alter the raws for every stone so they can't become aquifers.
Kobolds are small creatures, and if he got hit in the torso before that, it's likely the bolt hit the last remaining piece of flesh keeping the upper and lower body together.
Oh god, if only Dwarf Fortress had visuals... Would give the gore-porn fans a fucking heart attack.
Kobolds are small creatures, and if he got hit in the torso before that, it's likely the bolt hit the last remaining piece of flesh keeping the upper and lower body together.
Great, now you gave me the mental image of a Kobold crawling away from battle with only the spinal column connecting his lower and upper body together.
Less than a year after starting my current fort, i get an ambush by 4 goblins, in full iron armour. in a world where the only goblin civ on the continent is at peace with my civ. there aren't going to be any survivors, as i hadn't had the time to make any weapons or armour, and i was in the middle of training my militia. fuck.
Great, now you gave me the mental image of a Kobold crawling away from battle with only the spinal column connecting his lower and upper body together.
It's like Happy Wheels, only with more alcohol! :v
devlog
The dwarves' dog tried to hold off the zombies, but they tore its head off. Then the necromancer raised it, and the dwarves were attacked by a headless zombie dog, in addition to the others. The head was not animated. I haven't gotten to that yet. But generally, the framework for critters that have usable "interactions" (curses etc.) being able to use them in play seems to be working. In getting zombies to appear in the tower, I had to make towns generally respect multiple entity populations (for instance, many different groups of bodies raised from various places), which was something I had to do for this release anyway, so shops will be a little faster once I get back to the market stuff.
Hey what's a good starting build for an above-ground wooden village? I suck at this stuff.
I embarked on a night creature's cave, and after killing it with a legendary miner, my dwarves made a beeline for the fat, so I can now expect human and elf tallow biscuits. also, free random junk!
