also, that legendary miner is some kind of hero. twice he has stopped the fortress from falling.
once, from taking down a goblin thief in the early stages, and then by putting down a berserk dwarf brought on by a failed mood.
this guy needs a damn nice tomb if he dies.

the bugger got lose when i tried to pit him, and sprinted to the fort's entrance...
and promptly got diced by the disc traps.
I now know goblins are not known for their intelligence.
I hope that Toady will implement the ability to kill creatures regardless of race. If I want to slaughter a human caravan I should be able to! And likewise, I should be able to order my soldiers to kill my own dwarves.

You can, you can kill anything short of pets and Dwarves.

I didn't know you could kill allies.
I just started playing this game two days ago, and I have a few questions.
How can I recover the body of a drowned dwarf so they don't decide to haunt me later? Does channeling next to a pond or river prevent drowning dwarfs?
Military.. Like, the whole screen. Mostly just equipping items and relieving squads. Also, whats the best way to make your squads enter formation before a battle.
Lastly, I've dug down into a cavern and I now fear for my safety. I want to seal this area in one of two ways. I want to mine and build a wall around the stairs on the first floor of the cavern, but the miners never go down that far. Secondly, I could remove the stairs, but I'm not sure how to do this without stranding one of my dwarfs. Also, theres a body down there that my dwarfs won't retrieve.

You can engrave a slab instead of burying the body, it also stops ghosts. Check DFwiki on how to. Actually, check it for everything. It has an answer most of the time.

Nope, from what I remember mining the floor gets you nothing but empty space.
So it doesn't even chuck out the gems so I can use them and put a floor in it's place?

Nope, think of a mined out floor as a thin slab that can somehow support immense weight.
This necromancy stuff is a big step towards magic.

The speed at which toady works is just scary.
just over a month ago he started this, and he's already done more than most game devs can get finished in 3 months.
I guess that that's mostly thanks to the graphics taking up so little power.

one quick question, would I be able to train the mount of a goblin siege?
Oh god, one of my cooks made a water buffalo bone floodgate. What the hell am I supposed to do with that? I can't even find it on the trading list to sell to the caravan. What good is this stupid thing?

put it in a noble's room or something to increase the value of the room.
and if it just happens to lead to a reservoir, then it's the noble's fault for making that mandate for glass items in a tundra, isn't it?

My fortress just fell to a tantrum spiral, the captain of the guard, (my original miner) survived until he was the last one left (he was sane), so I abandoned it.
Why was my military so slow in a defend burrows order while a siege was underway? They decided they would finish drinking, among other things, before defending. Luckily it was just a drive-by.
Is it possible for goblins to be completely dead in a world, because I haven't even got any thieves or anything.

Increase your fortress wealth, just start making a fuckton of gold or some shit, they will show up/

Kobolds die out at worldgen always, unless you fix it with a mod (mine has the fix).

I was wondering why I hadn't seen any Kobolds in 2010.
I have this poor hammerdwarf who lost both of her arms in Titan encounters, one a stegosaurus and another to a giant hairy slug. I retired her, but would she be still able to haul shit with her mouth?

Yeah she will, the only way to stop a dorf from working is death or insanity.

Now the dwarves wont use pots for seeds anyomore, and i have a fuckload of pots.
