This thread is pretty dead in the lack of updates

Wow, I've just installed this. Confusing as fuck, but looks so fun!

So, I've been trying my hand at adventure mode, and it's probably the most frustrating game I've ever played. Most of my heroes don't last past a few days, and the ones that do either are extremely lucky, or very rarely see combat. It seems that every time I start getting somewhere with a character, an enemy gets a lucky shot to the head. How do people build up their characters without starting out as a demigod?

Find some wolves. Stab them, until you become awesome enough to kill anything. And get some drunks to aid you in the adventure.

I assume he's got both of his hands maimed in some way, and got them patched up at a hospital, and not being able to pick up the axe because of his injured hands? It happened to me once, with food. [editline]14th February 2011[/editline] You can check if he's using the mouth to make beds. When the armless dwarf is carrying an item, check out his inventory and the piece of wood to see what he carries it with.

Artifacts often need other stuff too like metal bars, or silk cloth/plant cloth, gems (cut or raw), bones, shell.. check the dwarf fortress wiki to see what his mutterings mean. Aka. what he is asking in a secretive way under his name.

I think tanners use leather workshops, did you have one?

I should get back into playing, one really successful fortress makes me not bother.
