It's random, but I admit I was annoyed you couldn't specifically craft a full Adamantine set of royal gear for your king/queen.
Damn it,i wanted to make steel and lead crowns for trading.
[editline]15th February 2011[/editline]
heh,i just commanded my metalsmith to make crafts,he made 3 crowns.
Just make crafts and hope it pops out a crown.
How can I train a caged stray grizzly bear to be a war animal.
When I add the trair war animal task it gives me this: Urist McTrainer cancels train war animal: Need creature.

Nevermind,figured it out.
Hey Dwarf Fortress thread! I was thinking of making a fort made from the suggestions of you guys that will be updated periodically in this thread with screenshots, and maybe even video clips.. I don't consider myself too new to the game. I made a couple forts, but never really finished them to even get to my first migration wave...
So first person to respond to this gets to choose all the parameters about the fort! It's name, where it will be made (nothing too crazy like inside a dormant volcano, but sinister places are fine. anything that I have even the slightest chance of doing well on!), the jobs the beginning dwarves have (yes, any job), their names, etc.

Never got to the first migration wave?
Settle on a frozen river.
Alternatively get more practice before attempting a Let's Playish challenge.

Well, I didn't make it due to a lack of skill, but more because of not liking my initial design, getting bored, or forgetting about it and when I come back I feel detached from the whole experience. I wouldn't compare it to a "Let's playish challenge", but more of a boatmurdered kind of thing except I'm doing it all myself, heh...
Also, okay a frozen river will be where I'll settle.

On the river, not the riverbank.
I think I've told this story before but I once planned to build a working hydroelectric dam across where two huge rivers met. I arrived on the first of the year to a frozen landscape. I looked everywhere for the two giant rivers I'd embarked to. I found nothing. Confused and slightly annoyed I decided it was best to just start digging.
2nd of Granite.
The snow melts.
Seven dwarves, two mules and a year's outpost supplies drowned that day.

As long as they were immigrants.

Oh damn, I sound like a crazed far right-winger.
[editline]17th February 2011[/editline]
Imagine a country run in a way similar to how most people play DF.
Mr. President, we're experiencing an extreme famine!
Collect the pets, and negotiate a free-trade agreement for bone crafts with China.

Mr. President, the government is unable to continue paying pensions!
Collect the elderly, enlist them in the Militia or house them in their new accommodations built into the side of Mt. Helen. That's due for an erruption, right?
And so on.
0.31.19 Released
Awesome.

Starting a new fort.
[editline]16th February 2011[/editline]
Or actually nah. I'll wait until the 1-2 week bugfix release is out first. There are some problems I'm annoyed with.

damn, the butcher is taking a long time to butcher the beast's toes
Woah, this looks like an awesome game to get into. Do you think I should stick to the ASCII and just learn/ get used to the look of it, or should I get a tileset?
I learnt the ASCII and have always been glad I did.

I read this as his right foot was thirsty. :v:
Fort name: ?
Group name: ?
Group classes: All proficient jewelers
Dwarf names: ?
Settlement: On a frozen river (Everytime I try to embark on an ocean or river it won't let me. I can only do it if I'm partly on the land. So when I embark there's a huge plain of frozen ice and a small area of mountain. I'm fine with this, but I'm wondering if that's what you had in mind, cheesedelux. Any fix to this or is that how you wanted it?)
Anyone want to finish the list so I can start the fort?
Fort name: The Faces of Punching.
Fort name: The Faces of Punching.
Very well.
By the way, you can fill in anything that has a question mark.
I heard something about the new version making metal very rare. Is this true? I just started a new embark in it to try out the new stuff, and I think it said I had deep metals, which would explain the lack of any so far...
Dwarf names: ?
You can always use people's names from this thread like most community fortress type things do.

Okay, I can't wait any longer! Settling on a frozen river with proficient jewelers all named after random people in this thread who are determined to build "The Faces of Punching". I'll update with pictures either tonight or tomorrow.
Starting Dwarf Names:
Neo Kabuto
Orkel
Canuhearme?
TheStabbyBunny
Thorny
Grasp
cheesedelux
Add me in and are we doing a standard 1 year per person LP?
Because I'd be glad to have ago

No problem. All names regardless if they asked to be in it will be added eventually.
Yours will be one of the first when the first migration wave comes (if we even get that far).
Group name: The Banner of Virgins.
Facepunch, right?
I haven't played DF for ages, but I could give a go for a bloodline game.

Add me there as well.
damn, the butcher is taking a long time to butcher the beast's toes
Well it's hard to butcher the toes of a creature that's on fire.
How do I get a ''sharpening stone'' to make rock short swords?
