How can I get one of my squads to fuck off and stop training? I set the minimum training to 10, and made them inactive.
I want to send a scrub squad down to get murdered, but those bastards are hogging the weapons.

When squads are inactive, they do invidual combat drills in the barracks on their free time.
When squads are active, they do demonstrations, sparring and the other "teacher" training types.
To make them stop training altogether, remove their barracks. I hope. But as long as they're assigned to the military, they will do invidual training at the least in their barracks.

Interesting.
Maybe they're busy dumping shit or something, I usually disable most of the hauling labors on my Planters and Miners.
Do legendary weapons wreck shit?
Do legendary weapons wreck shit?
They most definitely wreck shit.
And when Toady adds magic they'll wreck even more shit.

Imagine a Dwarf setting "Ulrich, the Flaming sword of Bronze", down and destroying the entire fortress because it starts a fire.
Or if he accidentally touches the blade and catches himself on fire.
Give them a full armor set, and make a room filled with wooden training spears (not actual spears) linked to a repeating lever. Put them in room every now and then. Watch them become legendary in 1-2 years.
Wait, linking training spears to a repeating lever, wat?
Wait, linking training spears to a repeating lever, wat?
Link the spears to a lever, and make the lever have a "Pull lever" order on repeat.
Link the spears to a lever, and make the lever have a "Pull lever" order on repeat.
How? :saddowns:
How? :saddowns:
Press 'q' and move over the lever. Add the job for linking levers. Select the lever|s you want to link. Choose mechanisms for linking. Wait for it to be linked by a mechanic.Press 'q' and move over the lever. Press 'a' and then 'p' (or 'P' I can't remember right now, though it should say "Pull Lever") and then 'r' for repeating the job.
This, of course, is assuming you have a lever and mechanisms. Mechanisms are constructed at a mechanist's workshop. (build>workshops>Mechanist's Workshop).
To build a lever, press build>Trap components>lever. (I'm not quite sure if it's 'l' for lever but it should be in that listing)
I know how to link stuff, but not link spears as there are no jobs to link spears

Upright spear trap
But what good will a spear trap do, in terms of training

Does not harm the soldiers if they're wearing armor, but each strike is treated as an "actual combat" strike.

A named Reptilewoman is taking down that thing down by herself.
ahahaha
ALL my dwarves just RUSHED out to grab all the cloth the merchants had without paying a thing
-snip double post-
So I just got a named crocodile who killed half of my fortress.
Killing off all these useless dorfs would be easier if it weren't for these pesky ghosts and their shenanigans.
So metal ore is really hard to find now?
I'm just starting out on DF and I have no idea what's going on. Is there an up-to-date tutorial I can use?

Apparently there's an element of luck. I've looked around quite a bit and the only metal ore I can find is gold.

Wonderful. More luck required when settling.
Also, are there any dwarf fortress utilities that will let me change the starting amount of dwarves/supplies? I remember one had that, but it's not updated for any of the newer versions.

I attacked a pack of Crundles just chilling on the edge of a cavern, then they just start POURING out of the side of the map. Good thing they're shitty in combat. Good training material anyways.
Some giant olms and reachers showed up to the party. good times were had.
That dwarf in the second picture decided that was an optimal place to take a nap.

You can add more embark points under the create Advanced World.
Booommbbb, after catching around 1 thousand wild llamas in my front gate cage traps, I caught something cool! A giant eagle! Now I just need a mate and i'm set.
I'm thinking of going back into this. Are there any huge changes I should know about?

I've heard that some people generate fort after fort without finding any... I guess I got lucky because the first fort I made in this version had tons of copper ore (though that's the ONLY ore I've been able to find)
what are the materials available as tissues.
