You don't have to follow it 100%.

Having a "Legendary Dining Room" is quite nice.
Playing as a snake person in adventurer mode makes everything so easy, what with the paralytic poison and all. Finding armor is a pain in the ass though, seeing as you start with none.
some immigrants arrived and i have no idea on what to do
some immigrants arrived and i have no idea on what to do
I make bedrooms then go on with my business. well actually I make the bedrooms beforehand. Migrants just mean I can do my future jobs better/faster.
i have a problem all the dwarves just go to the wagons pick something up i think then go to some barrels in the stockpile and they have been doing this for like 10 minutes [editline]27th February 2011[/editline] i got attacked by mandrills and every dwarf and animal is hurt now
i got attacked by mandrills and every dwarf and animal is hurt now
..And such is life in Dwarf Fortress.

I re-downloaded this game a few days ago, and started a new fortress but didn't get anywhere. Today I managed to get the bedrooms done, the booze industry running, and flooded 3/4ths of my fortress. Fun as always.
does water run down staircases and can the pools on the surface like the blue 7's be several levels deep?
does water run down staircases and can the pools on the surface like the blue 7's be several levels deep?
I'm pretty sure that water will run down staircases, and if you are talking about the murky pools on the surface of the map, those can only be a level deep.
When you look at the pool from above, the color of the blue 7's is darker. When you're "in" the water, on the same Z-level, it's lighter blue.
is there any way to kill a dwarf beacuse that idiot occupied my mason's workshop and i cant figure out how to get him out except for iron apparently, but i cant find any way to make iron bars
is there any way to kill a dwarf beacuse that idiot occupied my mason's workshop and i cant figure out how to get him out except for iron apparently, but i cant find any way to make iron bars
If they're in a strange mood, just wait it out. They'll end up going crazy in a while, and then will either starve/dehydrate, or they'll jump off a cliff. They might go berserk though and try to kill everyone so you might want to wall off the workshop until it's safe. [editline]27th February 2011[/editline] If you need the workshop immediately, you could try caving a portion of the level above him.
is there any way to kill a dwarf?
No.
Or you could just build another masonry for the time being.
Obsidian should make a badass sword considering how sharp it can get.
does my dwarfs pick up items they need for their job or is there something i need to do?
does my dwarfs pick up items they need for their job or is there something i need to do?
Yep, dwarves have to pick stuff up for their jobs and bring them to their workshops. If they're not doing it you might have to check if they have the hauling highlighted in their labor preferences (usually it's automatically highlighted). If you've done both of that then you might need to check if they have the skill to do the job or if you even set the task in the workshop! And if none of that helps (rare) your dwarf could be depressed or sick or something?
i mean tools like pickaxes hatchets etc
Obsidian should make a badass sword considering how sharp it can get.
Obsidian already makes the second best swords in the game, equal to steel and only under the god metal Adamantine in terms of effectiveness.
http://mkv25.net/dfma/movie-2101-fullyoperationalairship I prayed one day we would see airships. And it seems, some day, we shall. In some official form, hopefully.
i mean tools like pickaxes hatchets etc
If you've assigned a dorf a job, they'll pick up picks and axes and such as needed.
Obsidian already makes the second best swords in the game, equal to steel and only under the god metal Adamantine in terms of effectiveness.
It's fun to play like an Indian, mod arrows to be able to be made out of Obsidian, and then use only wood and obsidian weaponry and cloth/leather armor.
