Alright, I have decided I'm going to do this my way. Fuck a tutorial. I will attempt to build many civilizations, and inevitably see them fall, before I figure out what I need to know. Smart? No. Fun? Most likely.
Using the SDL version:
http://horobox.co.uk/u/Orkel_1301053582.rar Put "art" and "init" into the /data folder, and put "objects" in the /raw folder. Overwrite.

Using the SDL version:
Whats the difference(s)?
Whats the difference(s)?
Colors don't rape your eyes as much as default, the tiles are square instead of non-square, certain bugged weapons have been fixed.

Smata Ospaz. "The Realm Of The Wind" has been created! And my settlement is Kilrudnebel, "Bronzeadmire". I like the name.

Aquifiers are something for advanced players because they're hard as hell to get through to get any stone.
Yeah, I noticed. When I went to chose a settlement, I attempted to choose a place with an aquifer, but it warned me with pretty much just what you said. Naturally, I chose somewhere else. Thanks for the heads-up though! So far so good. I got a hole dug out of a cliff face, I got a farm plot up, and some stockpiles. And plenty of wood. So far so good. [editline]25th March 2011[/editline] Simple question. How exactly do stairs work? For instance, I want a set of stairs to go down from my current z-level.
After designating a down stair at a spot, you need to also designate an up (or up/down combo) stair underneath it.
Stairs allow creatures to travel across z-levels. They can be dug out or constructed. They need to be connected to other stairs of the appropriate type to function. Up stairs need to be built below down stairs. Up/down stairs function as both up and down stairs at once.
Thank you! [editline]25th March 2011[/editline] Well, I did as instructed, but my little dorfs won't construct it. They just wander off after building the down set of stairs.. Unless I'm missing something. Hmm.

The Killing Grounds of the kitties. Vicious little bastards. That helped.
Is there any faster way of marking for dumping other than k then d on everything you want to dump?
Is there any faster way of marking for dumping other than k then d on everything you want to dump?
d-b-d Mass dumping, just make sure no dwarves are in the area as it might cause their stuff to be dumped too (not sure of this but that's a precaution I like to take)
Wow. You know, doing this without a tutorial seems to me like its going a lot smoother. And I'm actually having fun with it. :buddy:
Tutorials do tend to slow things down a bit. And with a game like DF it's hard to prioritize which part of the tut to go through and when
I figure that if its important, I'll figure it out or die. And after I die because of that fatal mistake, I might realize that its important, and learn it. DF is kinda going to lead to your death anyway, so why not let it teach you something, and make you feel like an idiot at the same time. :buddy:
FEY WEAPONSMITH And he took adamantine bars!
I'd sacrifice sixty Dwarves if it means I can get a Legendary weaponsmith/armorsmith. Watch it be a hammer or mace.
FEY WEAPONSMITH And he took adamantine bars!
And he makes an adamantine hammer
He made a spiked adamantine ball. :saddowns: I'll put it in a trap and it shall annihilate everything that steps on it [editline]25th March 2011[/editline] called The Strong Reputation [editline]25th March 2011[/editline] Worth 4,933,200* My most expensive artifact ever created It also has two images of itself on itself in made in two different materials :psyboom:

I'm trying to make a magma smelter, but it doesn't seem to be working. The wiki says it needs to be built above a magma tile, and I have an open space with magma below it... Just to clarify, is the build menu going to say "magma smelter" instead of just "smelter" or do I just need to build a regular smelter above the magma, and then it becomes a magma smelter?

Key combo should be b-e-l (small L) according to wiki.
This is ridiculous, one of my new immigrants went beserk and decided to attack one of my carpenters until she fell on the ground writhing in pain. He kicked her enough to fill 140 pages of combat report then collapsed from over exertion.

Check his profile to see if it says anything about weakness.
Uhh, a lye maker just made me some cow bone leggings with spikes in Microcline. They can't be very good right? I mean it's cow bone.
Uhh, a lye maker just made me some cow bone leggings with spikes in Microcline. They can't be very good right? I mean it's cow bone.
Artifact I suppose? Nah it's not very good. Compared to regular bone leggins it's way way better, but it's still just cow bone as you said. So it won't stop metal weapons, although it has a slightly higher chance of deflection.
Is there any faster way of marking for dumping other than k then d on everything you want to dump?
If you're dumping stone, just hide it. (d-b-h)
If you're dumping stone, just hide it. (d-b-h)
My life will never be the same
If you're dumping stone, just hide it. (d-b-h)
there are no words
If you're dumping stone, just hide it. (d-b-h)
I hate knowing that the stone is still lying around though, I've got so many retarded immigrants that can't do shit (well they are good at everything but the useful things) so they might as well haul those rocks around.
