Dwarf Fortress v13 - Orkel looses a roaring laughter, fell and terrible!

Quick question, Orkel. Is there a way to play with no enemies, or you know, outside forces hellbent on destroying me? Cause im still learning the simple stuff. There is no way in hell I can pull off a Boatmurdered until I at least learn some more of the basic shit first. It would be nice to learn at a somewhat leisurely pace. :v:

Go to the init files and turn invaders off.
Data/init/d_init.txt
[INVADERS:YES] to [INVADERS:NO]

Oh. Awesome! Thanks Orkel. :buddy:
I tried playing again, and I think all of my dwarves have just been killed by a flock of buzzards.
so fucked

It's a blob, so ranged piercing weapons (arrows) don't really do much, and it's made of flame so if I use melee soldiers they'll get their fat melted off various parts of their bodies as they get close.
Wow. I either chose a good time or bad time to start learning DF. Another update today? Okay I guess. New fortress time!

How the hell are you going to kill it? Flood it? :v:

Drop a mountain on it!
Pour water on it. Watch it evaporate.

Water? Damn I'm late.
Also wouldn't a flame creature be very weak? I mean the problem should be hitting it without burning, but once you hit it, I can't imagine a gas being very difficult to cut (so traps and ballistas?).
Water doesn't work. It will evaporate several tiles away from the heat.
I'm gonna use melee soldiers and hope for the best (aka. that they don't die from the bleeding caused by melting fat)
No. You should use a cave in instead in that case.
oh god, it's leaving behind a trail of fire that burns everything it steps on

Too boring :v:
I have to find magma now. The pit under the bridge is pretty deep, but I'm going to fill the bottom with graphite then set the graphite on fire.

Well if it's so hot it evaporates water at several tiles distance, the armour is going to become a frying pan for the dwarves.
Also meant lignite above, not graphite. I wish I had a pit of burning graphite, so much cooler (and more dangerous).
I sent one soldier against it, he killed the beast but died of blood loss a few seconds after thanks to all his fat melting off.
Right before he died, he named his sword for the honor of slaying the beast.
Shadmalmeng, The Confusing Lashes, an iron short sword
He shall live on via this awesome sword.

Ahhhhhhh! It BURNS!!!! The snow... So... Damn... Bright..

And then a mandrill runs in and grabs the shortsword, stealing it away, I think it's bound to happen :v:

I gave it to his successor, who is now wearing his armor as well.
Spring finally hit. Thank god.
Im going to get Phoebus' graphic set because Mayday hasn't updated his yet. Does Mayday's DFG compilation change anything other than the display and graphics that I should deal with before I switch to some other new set?

Oh god my eyes!
Looks like one of those "Stare at this long enough and it will start moving" things.

Thank god I'm not the only one. I was kinda tripping out there for a minute. But then spring hit and the snow melted. Bam! Its green now!

This is what I do to my berserk dwarves. I should put his cage in the middle of the meeting area up for show.

Uh.. What?
Seriously. What the hell does that mean. Do they cancel each other out? Or are they both attributes to a different thing? Is he strong, but has nut cancer? I need answers! :v:

Two different attributes. Toughness and strength. He is tough in toughness, but weak in strength.

Thank you. That was really irking me for some reason.

He can take a punch, but can't throw one.
He can take a punch, but can't throw one.
Well put.
He can take a punch, but can't throw one.
Well he's my expedition leader. Seeing as how I don't think that he would need to be throwing a punch anyways, I think he'll be alright. I'll just put his pansy ass in the garden or something.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm digging through a gneiss wall.. What is gneiss? Whats it used for?
Hmm, how do you assign weapons to different dwarves?
Hmm, how do you assign weapons to different dwarves?
Uniforms section of the Military menu. I don't recommend specifically choosing different pieces of armor if they're not artifacts, since that seems to still be bugged. If you want them taking axes, then set their uniform to have "axes." They'll automatically pick up the best quality one you have.
