Nevermind. Maybe I should hold off on the stupid questions and peruse the wiki.
Nevermind. Maybe I should hold off on the stupid questions and peruse the wiki.
There is no such thing as a stupid question :v:
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm digging through a gneiss wall.. What is gneiss? Whats it used for?
http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Gneiss If you dig around gneiss, you might discover veins of natural silver.
Something isn't right. I did like a 40v40 in arena, and every single death was due to a head injury. What gives?? Everyone had iron long swords, iron mail, and iron helms, and iron gauntlets etc.

It's also possible that they punched or kicked the head which in vanilla DF results in insta-skull-jammed-into-brain.
Alright, quick question to everyone here. What are the first few things you do in a new expedition? I just wanna see if I'm missing something that will be crucial in the coming years.
If someone could supply a nice fort I would very much like that. My forts die too fast and I need something to work on.

But yes this is occurring some of the time. And the other times its just slashing all the other body parts until one gets a lucky stab in the skull. The only time they go pass out is after the sword is mid skull. Then they die right after that.
Alright, quick question to everyone here. What are the first few things you do in a new expedition? I recommend getting a farm up as soon as you can, but due to the time it takes to usually get to a murky pool while digging out the first layer, you'll have enough chairs/tables for a hall, and enough beds for the dormitory/barracks. Once you're done with making beds, I'd reommend building 18 training spears, while digging out a 3x3 room connected to the barracks via a single door. If you have a mechanic in your group (which I highly recommend) I'd advise you have that dwarf make around 22 mechanisms, which will be used to put the training spears into the 3x3 as Upright Spear Traps (2 spears per trap) that are connected to a single lever, which would be built right outside the room. The remaining mechanisms would be used to make a lever for the farm, and the extra two used to connect a floodgate with the farm lever. Ack, goblin ambush raping my fortress.
Well it must have something to do with iron on iron damage. As soon as I substituted steel swords, parts were flying around like normal. For this mod I'm making I'm thinking that lower level armor will have less coverage compared to the higher level armor.
I use .22 since I am using Orkel's mod.
Install .23 in a new folder, copypaste your "regionx" folder from data/saves, and then install the updated version of the mod for .23 that I posted a while ago. The fighting is taking place outside of the fortress, what? Did all my dwarfs run away from the relative safety of the fortress to attack the goblins? Because I have a secure, stone wall surrounding the fort with a single door.

Else they'll go outside to pick up the clothing/body parts etc that the dead guys drop.

Hmm this fucking sucks. Whenever I embark with my mod installed it crashes. I tried changing the civ_controllable tag around to other factions and same problem. Man I put a shit ton of work into this lmao.
... :U
You could also forbid them from picking them up in the first place. o-F is the keycombo [editline]26th March 2011[/editline] My military commander just became even more badass. He named his masterwork adamantine battle axe, into something awesome.
Orkel can I like beg you to look over my raws to see whats the problem?
I'm not good with that sort of thing.
I'm not good with that sort of thing.
poop
Is Adventurer mode pretty fun?
Is Adventurer mode pretty fun?
It's way rougher than fortress mode. There isn't much to do other than a simple "kill this" quest.
It's way rougher than fortress mode. There isn't much to do other than a simple "kill this" quest.
Oh. Then I will avoid that for now.
Oh. Then I will avoid that for now.
It's still very fun.
I have finally gotten myself to try and get into this game after a long time of knowing about it and being too much of a baby to try it. I have made a cave for my dwarfs, learning the basics etc. I have struck onyx opal, what do I do with it? Eat it? Rub it all over my face and do a dance?

Assuming you're using version 31.23, install this pack (ASCII) for less eye-rape and square tiles + weapon balance.
