Fucking ghost lagging my Fortress up.
Ghost lag was fixed in the newest version, which one are you using?
Build beside them.
Tried, but that doesn't work either. [editline]27th March 2011[/editline] Do bolts used in archery practice always break and become unusable or is that just because my targets are made out of granite?

[editline]27th March 2011[/editline] Do bolts used in archery practice always break and become unusable or is that just because my targets are made out of granite?
I read that you should have a pit behind the archery targets, not a wall so that the bolts will just land in the pit and are reusable after that. Never done that though because I haven't used archery targets after wooden bolts stopped being deadly so I don't know for certain. Also, my friend told me that if you let the dwarves pick up used ammunition, you'll end up with 1 bolt "stacks" that will spell doom on your combat effectiveness should they choose to take only 1 bolt into battle v:v:v . e: I might be talking about an earlier version, I'm sorry if this isn't true anymore.

You can't restack bolts, so I don't recommend reusing them.
You can't restack bolts, so I don't recommend reusing them.
I'll use non-iron ones then, before my dwarves start going into battle with 1 bolt. I managed to survive the winter! Only one dwarf starved to death and one child was snatched by goblins. On the other hand one of my dwarves went insane and produced an artifact I know nothing to do with!

I always had problems with food (especially since my halls and furniture of gold attracts hordes of immigrants), until I got 10 farms running all 4 seasons non stop. Build a large room (how big is up to you, but 20x20 is more than enough) then flood it (control the flooding with a floodgate, and be careful not to flood with over 4/7 of water, because then dwarves can't move in that), then expand the room a bit (until the water evens out and is 1/7 in some places), then wait for it to evaporate (only 1/7 deep water evaporates, but as long as 1 square is 1/7, it will evaporate, then the surrounding water will move into it lowering the adjacent tiles even more, evaporating those too and so on, of course if more than one tile is 1/7 it will be a whole lot faster).
Actually dwarves can move exactly in 4/7 and gain swimming skill when doing so. [editline]27th March 2011[/editline] Nevermind, misread your post.

Recent namings: Ragemidget named both of his steel warhammers. Fortressyearling the Palace of Mists and Dimblock the Bandit of Fellowships Iron short sword got named The Confusing Lashes by an elite champion Military commander named his adamantine battleaxe, The Throat of Yor He also named his iron shield, Bearfights the Tattoo of Poetry
You can't restack bolts, so I don't recommend reusing them.
Ugh he still hasn't fixed that?
One of my warriors, after slaughtering a goblin siege with his buddies, named his Adamantine Shortsword something incredibly awesome. The Knife of Flame.
Ugh he still hasn't fixed that?
Not a fix, more like a lacking feature. [editline]27th March 2011[/editline] Ragemidget's sidekick, Psychognome, is very unhappy because two of his marksdwarf buddies died in a siege. He also was miserable for a minute or so, but I made the two guys spar eachother so Psychognome got a happy thought and went to "just" very unhappy. If he tantrums, lots of Fun shall occur. He's the second most powerful soldier in my fort armed with two battleaxes, only Ragemidget is stronger.
Hmm, started a new fortress. Nice spot except for one flaw... no trees. Which means i'll need to rely on the ELVES Also catapults for fortress defense, yay or nay?
I want to play this but damn it's confusing. What?! :ohdear:

Still a really fun game, wish there were more quests than: kill 'x' then come back and get fame.
A fey-mood stonecrafter of mine just made a golden mug worth 109,200☼ holy shit. That's from two gold nuggets and a maple log. Encrusted with gold and encircled with bands of gold, and it menaces with spikes of maple. It also just single-handedly doubled my fort's total value.
For some reason I really enjoy it when Dwarves make artifacts out of precious metals, like I'd rather get an artifact golden crown then an artifact steel bucket.

Ok, now another one just made a golden toy boat worth 72,000☼ My fort is just going to be full of useless golden items. This might have something to do with the fact that my miners can't stub their toes without striking gold. I mean, I even found it when I was digging the entrance hallway of my fort. It's all over the damn place.
Alright, do you still have to muddy farmplots? Or can they be dry as a bone, and shit can still grow? Im confused.
Alright, do you still have to muddy farmplots? Or can they be dry as a bone, and shit can still grow? Believe me, it's worth it.

I'm shocked. I started really playing this game two days ago, and I'm doing awesome. I just had a realization moments ago when I was playing, and was actually doing the things I intended without pulling my hair out. Turns out, I really like this game.
I started playing this again after several months of not doing so. And damn, I am in a tough position. Never was that good at it either. Turns out my location is so high everything is frozen. I am pretty sure it didn't say that on the Embark screen. So I was forced to dig deep down in hopes of finding water. I did. I also found an underground cavern. Since I have no room to build farms, I had to dig into that cavern to use the muddy floor. That was a bad idea, but if I hadn't done so I would have no food. I built an outside farm, but there are next to no usable plants in the area. So far I have lost four dwarves to giant bats. One is still alive, but his spine is broken. And the surgeon doesn't seem to know what to do. I barely have food, barely have booze, and the only water source and farm is in a dangerous underground cavern. I also got a buttload of migrants, making my fortress 38 dwarves strong. Man, I love this game. Is there an easier way to fill an artificial well than having three or four holes with the "pond" zone on it? 'cause I just couldn't get that to fill up enough for the water to stay. I am going to build pumps eventually, but the underground lake is about 30 levels down from where I need water.
Can anyone suggest a good (updated too) texture pack? [editline]28th March 2011[/editline] My first fey mood creation.... And this is what the bastards make. Is this some sort of portent of what the future holds? They sure as fuck think so.
My first was a hatchcover. Also, Toady fixed the bug that forced you to muddy soil underground. You don't have to do that anymore to farm. Only when there's no soil, such as on stone, do you have to muddy it.
Had a slight accident with an aquifer in my region, the region contains two biomes and only one had an aquifer. Managed to contain it somewhat before it flooded my primary farms.
Ironhand is the best texture pack.
Thanks for the info. I got it. :buddy:
