Is it possible to aim at specific body parts with the bow and arrow? Using F then Enter seems to hit random body parts.

Aiming for ranged weapons doesn't work yet. Just melee.
Try making a demigod adventurer with only grandmaster swordsmanship, seriously. There's nothing that can stop you. I killed 2 nightfuls of bogeymen alone, just kept parrying their attacks and sliced them in half with single strikes.
So, winter came and the river that supplied my well with water got dammed up from ice, so I sent a miner to dig a path through the ice, and it froze over him. That had never happened to me before, so I sent another miner to dig him out thinking I could save him, but he just got trapped, too.
To make a long story short, when spring came around, the ice melted and their bodies never showed up. I don't know if they floated away or what, but one of them came back as a ghost and I think he's stealing pick axes and making them disappear. How can I put him to rest without the body?
Engrave a slab with his name on it and place it somewhere.
Make a memorial to him.
If there were volcanoes I would want to see a Krakatoa type one erupt where it fucks shit up across the entire world.
Another problem here. I got rid of the ghosts and everything was going fine until winter came around again and dried up the river.
No big deal, I saw the river starting to freeze and I had a huge amount of beer made. It's sitting in the stockpile for everyone to drink, but they keep trying to drink from the dried up river. I'm getting absolutely spammed with "Dwarf cancels drink water: water source vanished." It spams insanely quickly.
I had six pages of notifications before that, and within ten or fifteen minutes I'm already up to 42.
Are they able to get to the beer? Is it forbidden? Is it in a stockpile/nearby? Is someone hurt and requiring water? If not, just assign them something to do and they should snap out of it eventually.
New devlog. Ceramics added!
Prepare for ceramics. You will now be able to construct anything from a jug to a mighty castle wall starting with simple clay. You will be able to make different kinds of ceramics from earthenware to porcelain as well as fire them with different types of glazes. Imagine a great hall filled with your own terracotta army.
I would play if i could find somewhere to start
and it's so damn complicated

I learned from this tutorial, and I thought it was great, but other DF players will probably recommend others.
Once you have the basic stuff down like how to make workshops, walls, weapons, a militia, farms etc, you can easily figure out everything else.

So um, that means that you can now build walls in adventure mode or am I misreading it?
Can dwarves walk across/over tables/chairs?

Fortress mode. There's no such things in AM yet.
Can dwarves walk across/over tables/chairs?
I think so.
One of my dwarves got possessed, and made a cheap blow-dart shooter. Disappointment.
Finally got something good/cool form a mood: platinum maul.
sadly, my computer couldn't handle the awesome of said weapon and df froze :(
I'm getting back into DF again, but I just realized I'm playing an older version. I'm on 31.14, and 31.18 is out. Can I transfer a save file to the new version?
If not, it seems like kind of a pain in the ass to have to start over every time a new version comes out. I might just stick with 31.14 if it doesn't have any fatal flaws that'll keep me from playing.
Kyle asked for the tileset I use, here it is:

Thanks.
Ok, something just hit me.
DF has existed as long as it has... And there are NO CHICKENS in the game. This seems very odd to me. Hoary marmots and one-humped camels and two-humped camels and crundles and cave lobsters exist... But there are no chickens. That seems like a fantastic animal to keep in a fortress for food. Also they could be raised for eggs, and maybe chicken coops could be built.

Or ducks!
Or ducks!
This is irrational and dumb, but my DF experience would be much improved by ducks and their fuzzy little offspring.
Fucking skeleton elks.
Blowing shit up everywhere.
My hunter is refusing to hunt. He has a crossbow and a quiver, and bolts are available to him, and there are deer and foxes ripe for the picking, but he's just wandering the fort with "no job"

Send out military squads (preferably marksdwarves) to kill the animals, Dwarves will drag the corpses to the butcher's for processing.
It's a lot more efficient if you do it that way, since Hunters tend to kill faster then the butcher can process, and this allows you to both choose what animal you want to process, and how many.
Ok he's doing it now. I disabled hunting as one of his jobs, then re-enabled it.
I don't think butcher shop overflow is going to be a problem. I only have one hunter at the moment, and two butchers, and there are only 5 animals on the map at the moment anyway.
I just embarked without preparing carefully.
Wish me luck.

...Or not. It won't load the map.
oh god, addicted to this game again...
*starting new fortress*
