Would you guys like a repository for all these dorf stories? I think it'd be fun to make one. I'd probably stick a random story button in there. People could submit stories along with a picture that relates.

I still have no idea how to play, sorta sat at the first screen once loaded, just paused and going through menus.
I've been playing for almost a week now. Orkel said to make a farm and some bedrooms, but I just couldn't figure it out. :saddowns:
I could make a how-to guide using screens if it would help. Also, have you checked out any tutorials? Such as, specifically, Captain Duck? He was using 40d, but with the recent fix of farming to allow it on any soil, .25 is basically 40d with a lot of additions.
I could make a how-to guide using screens if it would help.
That could be useful.
How does a yak even grab things with its rear leg I don't even
You. Augh. Tell me where your avatar is from. Reminds me of an old arcade game. Quick!
Starting out in evil areas is best. Mostly because of the rampant slow and easily killable zombie critters for military training. One of my best forts ever was in this abomonation of a freezing haunted mountain. But my military dwarves kicked so much ass from slaughtering zombie muskoxen pretty much 24/7.
If it can have pictures in it
I was thinking of this as well. If he isn't up for it, I'd be glad to make something for it.
I'd really say there are enough tutorials to get behind the general workings of DF already, watch the tutorial videos or read the Complete and Utter Newby Play Along tutorial thingy. EDIT: And to rain on yet another parade: Isn't the lparchive like that already? It's not focused on DF alone, but otherwise, it's pretty much that.
You. Augh. Tell me where your avatar is from. Reminds me of an old arcade game. Quick!
Well it's from a show I remember from when I was a really little kid and it was called The Littl' Bits As far as I know it has nothing to do with a game I told you this on my profile but I guess you forgot to check back
First off, you need to find underground soil for your farm. This is pretty easy to find, as it's usually anything directly below grass, and is quite easy to mine out. Dig out a place where you want to put your farm. I tend to do a 10x11 plot, which allows me two 10x4 farm plots, but I'll show that in a little bit. (Image of the finished product, the three tiles in the middle are meant to be left untouched largely for cosmetic purposes.) Construct the farm by opening the build menu (b) and pressing p to select farms. Using the commands on the screen, you can widen or lengthen the farm plot accordingly, however it can only stretch to a maximum of 10 tiles (which is why the room is 10x11.) After constructing the farm, hover over it with the cursor after pressing q, and select the plant you want to have farmed. I recommend plump helmets for both plots for the first couple of years. Once you choose the plump helmets (most likely by spring or summer) you'll need to set the farms to keep producing all year round, so cycle through the seasons via pressing a, b, c, and d, then selecting the plant you want farmed that year.

Good night, fellow DF'ers. See ya tomorrow.
Anyone who thinks that a DF story/comic page would be nice, hit me up on Steam. I'm gonna see about making one, unless SomeFaggot wants to go through with it that is.
I haven't played since .18 or so, looks like some serious performance fixes have taken place. The game used to have a lot of hiccups even in brand new fortresses, but now it seems I can run it as smoothly (or perhaps even better) than 40d.
Purple shit keeps coming out of the wall, looks like it floods everything but then it receeds, first I was scared it was water or something, but it doesn't seem to do anything. What is it?
It's miasma. It comes from having rotting garbage sitting around indoors, and gives your dwarves a negative thought.
But I don't have rotten garbage in doors... Sigh.
Well SOMETHING died.
Fortress sharing time! Behold, Roofrubs! http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9583738/Dwarf%20Fortress/Roofrubs/Floor0%20Upper-floor.jpg This is the ground floor of my fortress. Working on a wall. There is one floor higher, but all I have there is a road for the caravans to enter my fortress, since they couldn't get past the stairs. My mistake. Top-left to right: Hospital, well, Depot, Barracks, kitchen, farm and food stockpile. Temporary smithy, since one of the newly arrived dwarves got in a fey mood right away. He is a metalcrafter. But I don't have an anvil. I embarked with more other stuff instead, but then I forgot to trade for one with the first caravan. I tend to fuck up like that a lot. Workshops and stockpiles of various sorts. Haven't dumped the stone from the left-most stockpiles yet. Must do that. My humble Dining Hall. Got room for expansion. Also, the "plumbing" for the well I am building. Don't have a floodgate built yet. Might also build a fortification in there, if those still keep beasts out and let water through. There is also an empty floor between this and the one above, to keep the noise from the workshops out of my Dining Hall. No idea if that is needed, but I like to build like that. And these are my bedrooms. Got space on the left for noble rooms, one up for the bookkeeper/manager already. Will continue with that design on the lower side of the corridor as well. It is still a young fortress, only a year old. And things go slow as I re-learn how stuff works. Having a lot of fun so far, will most likely have Fun pretty soon.
But I don't have rotten garbage in doors... Sigh.
Yeah, I know you may think that. There was a time when I couldn't find the source of this miasma. I looked all over the room and just couldn't imagine what was causing it. After a good night's sleep, I looked upon the room with fresh eyes and noticed that there was a dead baby under a dining table. Problem solved, and tossing it down the trash disposal put my subject's minds at ease.

Hey please anyone who posts screenshots, and especially if you're using a tileset, don't save them as a low quality .jpg because it looks horrible.
Yeah... Dwarf Fortress on maxed settings is totally wasted if you're just going to screw it up with a low quality JPEG screenshot.
I don't see the motion blur or parallax mapping
