Exactly, add a Main Street and a Town Centre and you have a Medieval City.
I think Toady intends on adding those, since he plans on adding manors, taverns, inns, and probably a marketplace later.
I need some way to hurt a group of 40 goblins and trolls that are standing around outside my walls, so I read up on the siege equipment. I can understand why the ballista cannot shoot over walls, but the catapult can't do that? And it cannot target enemies lower than its own Z-level? Wow. I'll just have to wait this siege out then. They managed to find a small hole in my wall/floor/ceiling or whatever, so they rained bolts down on my dwarves for a little while. Killed three, hurt seven. My military sucks, because I am not good with managing them, and three of my four marksdwarves are in the hospital. Having Fun!
Edit:
Never mind. The siege has ended, all of them just ran away. Two of my hurt marksdwarves died of infection. I was too late with my soap.
Got a question: What settings do I need on pressure-plates so that a bridge retracts when a goblin steps on it?
i have been fighting off underground monsters with 1 guy with leather armor and a bizmuth bronze axe i finally got my hands on adamantite so im going to start training my millitary on the captured badgers and trolls
In 40d I made a creature that was essentially a dwarf-sized troll. I gave it the item stealing properties of a rhesus-macaque, except with no fear and also an aggressive nature. They'd be attracted to the fort because of the item theft tag, then would attack the dwarves on sight.
Also they came in packs of 100-200. (I only had them inhabit terrifying biomes though) You'd have to seal the fortress until you could get a serious military, perhaps some adamantine. Then it was fun to just fight off such a massive horde.
Think you could create something similar for the current version? You could probably use the crundles as a base. They're pretty harmless individually but quite deadly in swarms.
A slightly beefed up crundle that appears in larger swarms in evil biomes would be nice to fight, and I'd gen a new world for them when my current fortress crumbles.
one of my dwarves just began making an adamantite artifact i wonder what it will be
it was a god damn cabinet :saddowns:

Put it in the room of a Legendary Dwarf.

Make him Happy.
Does lava melt non-magmasafe stuff from one Z below? For example, I have a room that will be filled with magma (7/7) and a room above where the magma forges will be, will the floor of the room above melt if it's not magma safe?

Nope, magma is only deadly on contact.
In fact, magma one z-level below just makes the above tiles "warm" which does nothing but keep Dwarves without clothes from dying of exposure, and (I believe) melting ice and/or snow.
keep Dwarves without clothes from dying of exposure
Is that even possible
I don't recall a single instance where a naked dwarf has gotten injured from natural map heat (like deserts) or cold (glaciers etc)
I didn't know dwarves were retarded. They keep falling in their own pits when digging moats...

Trust me. They are alcohol addicted, angry, severely retarded midgets.
half my millitary is in the hospital and is dieing while all my doctors etc are sitting in the stockpile getting drunk

Free dwarves with diagnosis skill will be needed to diagnose them first.
But dwarves think that booze > saving their dying comrades.
all the doctors are set to diagnose and im getting spammed by cant pickup equipment my fucking arm just fell off
I can't wait for the improved mechanics.
Moving fortress parts, rock grinders, pipes large enough to travel through
:allears:
Too bad that it could be years until that all comes out.
So when the hell does a Baron arrive/can be appointed? I have created 2 000 000 wealth, have nearly 150 dwarves, and exported 11 000, yet no Baron in sight.

Fortress liaison usually allows you to appoint him. Sometime.
Alright, why is everything that originates from caves, running into my fortress? Is it like a night fly that is drawn to light? Fucking toads and shit, Trolls and spiders FUCK OSFF!
Fortress liaison usually allows you to appoint him. Sometime.
Oh well, I guess I'll just wait and hope he'll allow me next time.
Also the fortress just became 14 years old, if the start date I remember is correct (550 is what I remember).
NOOOOOOOOO! My miner got mauled by a cave crocodile ;_;

Avenge him by either flooding the cave with magma, or by creating a huge cave-in on it.

I've heard of it happening, but I've never seen it personally.
In my world without booze the dwarves all got so depressed that they started fist fights with gorillas and were promptly torn limb from limb.
My friend was asking me where the save files are located for DF, so I told him. DF folder/data/save
He says it doesn't exist, and he's using the same version as me.
Why must he always do this to me?
And yes, he has a save, since he's got a world and fortress.
Is he legally blind?
Nope.
He's the one that insisted his 3+ year old Alienware can handle a catsplosion without any FPS loss.
Is he legally mentally deficient?
Perhaps? He spends the class time we're given to work on reports reading forums and posting with horrible spelling and grammar.
Seriously, there's a five-page report due in a couple weeks and I'm the only one of our group, three people, that has any progress.
I used to play before DF2010, much changed?
