Ugh, I suck at keeping forts alive. Any general tips? That horse plowed through my steel armored soldiers.
That's no horse, that was a Nuckelavee!
I think my fort is done. First a huge siege including a leader of the goblin civilization attacked me. When I tried to defeat the force, I sent my squad of adamantine clad warriors out they slaughtered them. So I greedily went to try and mine more adamantine but ended up piercing to hell. Result:

Wat do?
I sealed them in that room.
I got my first goblin siege!
16 goblins and a giant rat.
At first i closed everyone in the fortress because i was scared they kill everyone, but they didn't wanted to go away and the merchants embarked on their journey, so i let them out.
I had 5 soldiers against 16 goblins, i tought everyone is gonna die but suprisingly noone did (only the merchant who was so hasty to go away), only one of my soldier lost her right hand, other were injured (broken parts) but they are healing now.
Also one of my dwarf enjoyed a meal so much, she made an artifact from its creator.

Keep 'em sealed until you want to kill off your fortress, maybe?
[editline]7th April 2011[/editline]
And I want to create a nice looking dining room for my dwarves, but I feel like my creativity in room shapes is limited, and that I've kinda exhausted all my patterns and stuff already. Anybody wanna share screenshots of nice room designs you've made/seen?

Deathstar trench. Walls and a roof. Fill it with millions of traps and/or pump magma down into hell.
Play some Adventure mode. Train your dude/dudette up, then find your old fort and kill the Shrimp, if it is there still.
But I have read several times that Adventure mode is not only more difficult, it is unfucking believably more difficult.

I have no idea if this is possible, but:
Train a fuckload of dorfs in projectiles.
Dig all around the pit.
Fortify the walls.
ARROWS FROM ALL DIRECTIONS.

More like unfinished.

I'm pretty sure demons can go through fortifications.
vanilla brains </3
A horse can and will jam your skull through the brain with a kick to the head, not sure what the problem is there. After all, the description does leave the severity of what happened to the imagination. It doesn't necessarily look like a hoof going in one side of the head and out the other, could be more like a large fragment of the skull is forced into the brain, which would be an appropriate result of what happened.
Although I do like the idea of having a multi-layered brain (can't make the game too complicated).
I defeated the siegers and killed the leader of the goblin civilization. Now all I have to worry about is the demons.

The problem isn't the skull jamming into the brain, the problem is that every single brain injury, from a minor bruise to said skull jam, is instantly deadly. 40d's brains were way more realistic than the "die on touch" switches they are in df2010. And the vanilla brains get damaged by everything. When one of your adamantine-clad superdwarvenly soldiers dies from a punch to his head that lightly bruised the brain through a masterwork adamantine helmet and killed him instantly, go ahead and say the system isn't bugged.
Just updated to .25.
So. Many. Minerals.
Can someone please explain to me why goblin lashers are so goddamn powerful? seriously, one of those fuckers just decimated my entire military.
[editline]7th April 2011[/editline]
Motherfucker got a ridiculous name too.
Stasost Murderedhell the Most Raven of Menacing.
What the FUCK.
[editline]7th April 2011[/editline]
I just racked it up in legends, in the slaughter of Bearmanor he alone killed 43 dwarves.

What the fuck did you expect going up against someone with the name 'Murderedhell'?! He had to EARN that title, you know!

Who would expect anything from someone named Murderedhell? Now, someone named Murderedboat, id be afraid of. ;D

Ah, I suppose you're right. I just see a lot of talk about it with poor examples like getting your skull kicked in by a horse, where it is in fact well within the realm of possibility to die on contact, and I haven't personally seen a lot of inappropriate brain injuries in my own game. I don't think I've ever really noticed the brain succumbing to minor trauma in my games, despite extensive play. Seems like either the skull protects the brain, or is completely destroyed by the attack. This is one of those issues where I think I'll just take people's word, since it happens so rarely to me, and a fix would improve the game anyway.
So I was swimming around in adventure, right? When suddenly YOU HAVE BEEN INCASED IN ICE. YOU ARE DECEASED. PRESS ESC TO FINISH. What the fuck man

DF water is, like everything else in DF, malevolent but mischievious/aggressive.

That happened to me too once except at the time I was attempting to punch a crocodile to death.
[editline]7th April 2011[/editline]
I'm fairly sure I killed it too.
Im sorry, first time posting in the DF thread, but

my game crashes shortly after this. Reloading causes it to crash after it reaches the same point in the game.
Is there a cause for this?
Thank you
fucking zombie elephants.
My fort is being constantly attacked by skeletal geese. They can be punched to death very easily, but they keep ambushing my dorfs on this very narrow bridge I'm using to build an artificial island in the middle of a lake. One makeshift mason already drowned because he dodged a goose attack and fell off.
Its weird, considering the area is "untamed wilds", rather then evil.
A fort can be built over multiple biomes. When selecting an area, you can press F1, F2, F3 etc. to look at them if there's more than one biome under your cursor.
Yes! I got an axelord in an hour of playing!
Nice! Now chop some goblins!
the goblins wich where chilling around on my map actually attacked the other goblins that ambushed me and some of them died :saddowns:
goblin bro nevar forget

Because whips are bugged. They can get through any armor.
That's why you should install the balance mod.
