Now that was a big siege. About fifty-sixty goblins and twenty or so trolls. I was almost done with my trapdoor as well. Dug out a 3x8 hole, two Z-levels deep, then placed a pressure-plate controlled bridge over it. That part was done, but I hadn't secured the corridors out of that hole. I had a floodgate there, but that was just a temporary thing to let my dwarves come and go, but keep the goblins in. So two dwarves ran outside like idiots, even though I ordered everyone to stay in my "Inside" burrow. Three cats got jacked as well. One more dwarf died when he tried to build a wall in the corridors of the trap. One of the trolls who fell in managed to destroy the floodgate before the wall was built. Seems my military has gotten better, since they mopped up the three trolls and four goblins who managed to get inside during the siege. I got one soldier who is goddamn badass. He doesn't have many kills, but he still fights and harms the enemy really bad. With sensory damage, one crippled arm and lessened grip power due to nerve damage. I don't think he carries a shield anymore, so he earns a new battle scar each fight he is in. Going to make him a special tomb I think. Oh, the siege was called off, but they left behind about fifteen goblins and six trolls in my pit. Looking forward to seeing them tear each other apart due to hunger.
opened hell and my fortress got killed off in 5 minutes
So how many goblins would it take to kill one dwarf legendary in every fighting skill, wearing the best armor and weapons available? Just wondering how long it would take for the goblins to completely overwhelm my forces.

Could take a month (real life time) or just one second, but chances are thirst and hunger will kill the dwarf first.
It depends, this is what I love about Dwarf Fortress, The fuckers could get in a lucky jab first hit or end up battling it out for years.

Some shithead is starting to put plump helmets in random stockpiles. The weapon stockpile is 50% occupied by plump helmets, oh and they won't dump them when I order them to either.
[QUOTE=EcksDee;29051554]I wonder what statues masons would make if a super-legendary dwarf single-handedly cleared up a siege of many dozens of goblins.[/QUOTE] This is a statue of legendary craftsmanship, all craftsmanship of dwarven hands is made of the highest quality, It is a statue of Urist McLegendary and Gobbo Dumbass, Gobbo is in fetal position, Urist is laughing.

The danger is a Dwarf getting overwhelmed, if you can manage them so that they go 1v1 or 1v3, then they're perfectly safe.

It has its own combat message, "X hits D with Y from behind, doing this and that". Same with "from the side", it also has a large damage/penetration boost but not as much as behind.

I'm guessing that dwarves leaving behind themselves a trail of miasma is a sign of necrosis right? Fucking forgotten beasts and their damn breath attacks. Everything but their heart seems to be rotting, hopefully "head" doesn't not necessarily imply brain, otherwise they're pretty fucked.

He won't survive because his entire body is rotting. Just hope it doesn't spread. [editline]8th April 2011[/editline] Although if he goes to the hospital, there's a tiny chance he'll be patched by doctors, who remove the rotten tissue. Some guy had a doctor amputate the entire skin of a dwarf and the dwarf survived, albeit he then was skinless, with massive scars everywhere and no eyes.

They`re still fighting. True dwarves imo.
I love weapon traps so much. I hate having to clean them out, though.

[img]http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/8759/nem.png[/img] Sorry, does anyone know what this is and why I keep getting it?
3 dwarves down due to the necrosis. Make that 5. [editline]8th April 2011[/editline] 7.
What should I do with my idle dwarves? (except killing/hurting them) [editline]8th April 2011[/editline] Seems 2 of my IRL friends are gay, they're married :v: [editline]8th April 2011[/editline] Ugh, I've this giant eagle annoying my dwarves, right now it's hanging around the well which is in construction.
[QUOTE=acds;29052776]3 dwarves down due to the necrosis. Make that 5. [editline]8th April 2011[/editline] 7.[/QUOTE] 8. Plus a farmer got stricken by melancholy, so 9 (and a possible beginning to a tantrum spiral).
Also, ordering dwarves to dig out all surface iron/gems while ordering them to dig out rooms at the same time will take quite long. [editline]8th April 2011[/editline] [QUOTE=acds;29052901]8. I've created a monster. The friend I introduced to DF will not stop talking about it now, and he plays in class every day. Completely disregarding the assignment our group has due in a few weeks.

[QUOTE=scratch (nl);29052938] Record it.[/QUOTE] At the moment it seems to be under control, I get a tantrum here and there but no-one is dying anymore so it should even out soon. [editline]8th April 2011[/editline] Uhh yeah, about that "under control". Just checked the log, 2 dogs and a dwarf randomly suffocated, it must have something to do with that necrosis-inducing syndrome.
[QUOTE=Durandir;29053128]Urist McClassmate cancels assignment. Urist McClassmate withdraws from society...[/QUOTE] If I hadn't introduced him to DF, he'd just be absorbed in Minecraft then. He has an addictive personality, apparently. Really bugs me since he likes to stand behind me while on break in class and tell me what he's doing with his fortress, while I'm just trying to browse a few sites.

I can't believe I only just found out that you can make chairs out of stone.
