Aww damnit, probably not gonna play it then.
No it just shows your fort in realtime, no interactions. You play in DF.
I miss the realistic simulator from the 40d days :smith: Whatever happened to that attempt at making it work in .31?
I feel like making a fortress in Minecraft with the DF style. Stockpiles for specific items, grand rooms with smoothed stone and engravings, various contraptions, et cetera.
Adamantine doesn't make very good melee weapons, except maybe spears
Still, would you trust a dwarf to swing at your head with an axe and not kill you?
Adamantine doesn't make very good melee weapons, except maybe spears
Isn't it that it's good for slashing weapons but sucks for blunt ones?
Isn't it that it's good for slashing weapons but sucks for blunt ones?
Yeah. Sucks for arrows/bolts and blunt weapons, but is the best thing ever for edged ones like swords or spears or axes. [editline]11th April 2011[/editline] Adamantine armor is invulnerable to edged weapons but sucks against blunt ones because it's light.
yay! I finally got a diplomat from the humans that didn't have an aneurysm or get finely diced by goblins when he arrived.
Adamantine armor is invulnerable to edged weapons but sucks against blunt ones because it's light.
Adamantine breastplate+steel mail shirt with adamantine helm and steel cap?
Adamantine doesn't make very good melee weapons, except maybe spears
An adamantine battleaxe is like a lightsaber, and that one's of masterful quality. Only melee weapons adamantine is bad for are the ones that specialize in blunt damage, like maces and warhammers. - Dang it, I need to stop responding to posts after letting the page sit for a few minutes.
I use Phoebus, but lightened the floor tiles a bit so I could actually see 'em. I love it. [img_thumb]http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/7687/df1j.png[/img_thumb] Also, on an unrelated note, 90-100 fps at 130 dwarves! Couldn't get anywhere near that on the last version I played, .18!
How would I go about lightening the tiles? They're far too dark.
You mean the floor tiles, or all of them? The floor tile is the only one I lightened. Used photoshop for that. I could post it if that's all you want.
Adamantine breastplate+steel mail shirt with adamantine helm and steel cap?
No, it's useless. It's so incredibly light that no matter how many you have the blunt weapons always do a lot of damage, or well, as much as possible. There's still lucky deflections, but there are serious injuries way more often than with steel for example. [editline]11th April 2011[/editline] Oh wait I misunderstood [editline]11th April 2011[/editline] I think that could work [editline]11th April 2011[/editline] But you have to remember that blunt weapons get through steel easily too. It's just that it happens more often with adamantine. [editline]11th April 2011[/editline] Oh, and mail shirts do not protect against blunt weapons at all. Rigid protection is necessary. If you tried to do a hybrid armoring thingy I'd recommend an adamantine mail shirt with steel breastplate, and steel helm with an adamantine cap.
What about say, adamantine mittens, and socks? Eh? Eh? Also, just added a tame giant tiger tied to an artifact diamond chain to my baron's lobby. Would make for one hell of a Cribs episode.

Would make for one hell of a Cribs episode.
I have no idea if the adamantine properties actually transfer to adamantine clothing. Gotta try that in arena right now. [editline]11th April 2011[/editline] can't assign clothes in arena mode, just armor :saddowns:
I assumed they did, since the principles of blocking a blade doesn't require a rigid surface to be contacted, but there might be some special property on armor that's required to do any significant blocking. Then again, I've seen things get deflected by regular clothes, so my hopes are high!
Useless goblins are useless - I just got sieged by around 10 goblins, but somehow one fell down into an empty pool and fought with a giant bat for like 3 months, while the other goblins just watched and waited for something to happen. I later sent in my 3 military dorfs and destroyed all of them.
What would be a good entrance trap for someone just starting out? thinking a T entrance with a drawbridge smasher, but not sure how to do any of this since I've only read about it so far :v:
What would be a good entrance trap for someone just starting out? thinking a T entrance with a drawbridge smasher, but not sure how to do any of this since I've only read about it so far :v:
tons of weapon traps work quite well.
Heard about something called a mob grinder, anyone got a picture of one? :v: Though I would love a trap that takes the blood to a resevoir which I can use later to flush enemies out with :3:
What happened in this thread? Everyone is artistic.
is it possible to butcher animals in cages beacuse i have around 50 elk birds just sittinging in my stockpiles
Artifact, a green glass portal (aka. window) wait.. The general of my dwarven civ's army is the husband of a monster? shit. [editline]11th April 2011[/editline] Gotta check the legends for sure. I want to see his history. [editline]11th April 2011[/editline] Ah. I checked his history. He was a dwarf. A normal dwarf with a normal life. He was appointed to the position of general, and during the following months he got attacked multiple times by the Moon Woman. Kadol beat her every time. Until he finally got defeated. The Moon Woman abducted Kadol from his fortress, imprisoned him and after half a year of imprisonment, turned him into his mate. Kadol became a large feathered humanoid with a bulging trunk, that moved in jerky, uneven motions. Pitch black feathers. He then started wandering some woods, no longer part of society and a monster. Killed some humans, attacked goblins and got attacked by a lot of shit. He's still alive, wandering the woods even now. He has a daughter and a granddaughter and a grandgranddaughter, all of them are black-feathered fat humanoids.
So there's some freakish mutant dwarf, wandering around killing people? Sounds like you need to go and kill it.
Anyone know a somewhat recent tutorial? apparently a shit tons been changed from what I can read here.
You mean the floor tiles, or all of them? The floor tile is the only one I lightened. Used photoshop for that. I could post it if that's all you want.
Could you please? :3:
One of my expert swordsdwarves who got his leg nerves severed is slowly starting to learn the ways of the Crutchwalking. The skill is increasing very slowly, he is now clearly faster than he was when he first started using the crutch, hoping that he reaches legendary soon (legendary crutchwalkers walk with the same speed as if they didn't use a crutch at all)

I got a custom icon for DF! I just had the launcer icon that comes with GNOME for a while. http://linkdragon.deviantart.com/art/Dwarf-Fortress-Icon-113316213 I use the version without text.
Alright, here you go:
