And is there any particularly easy way for me to be able to carry more? I can only carry about 62 pounds, and my equipment weighs at least half that much, so I get very little carrying capacity.

get into fighter's guild and learn weight lifting. then if you're really impatient spend whatever bonus points you have on it.

I am going to presume because my little girl fights with me and can tank for me while I cast spells. Unless you never fight (i.e. pianist), your pets should be at a fine level.
