CoD isn't inherently bad, this just looks nothing like it.
The target practice looked a lot like the one in CoD 2.
The target practice looked a lot like the one in CoD 2.
Only because you shot at helmets.
While I am often saddened by the oft-believed stereotype that WWI was nothing but boring trench warfare in France that therefore makes it unsuitable as a game setting, this actually looks pretty good. If this succeeds I hope it'll make other devs touch the better theaters like East Africa and the Middle East.
Actually doesn't look that good to me.
I generally don't like WW1 stuff but this looks pretty awesome
well when you think ww1 you think western front generally sorta like in ww2 games you generally dont put the whole emphasis of the game in africa
Time to break the stereotype. As an aside, when you think of WWII on the Eastern Front, do you still believe that the Soviets won primary because they had enough men and tanks to throw in front of German machine guns and AT weapons?
true, but those are smaller timeframes its viable i guess
But it's more interesting to play and you don't need the whole 1914-1918 in the scope of a shooter game.
Why is it that people seem to ignore the existence of the Spring and 100 days offensives? Also, i'm particuarly interested in how this melee system works.
That's fricking awesome, gonna get!
As long as I get to bayonet dudes in the stomach, I'm sold EDIT: Actually, wait, one thing worries me. If it's the same map everytime, wouldn't that hurt the replayability even with the "different ways" to do things they talk about? Like, even if you decide to call in extra infantry instead of artillery or something, you'd still know "Yeah, I can hide in this crater over here to keep away from their MGs". I'm guessing the map will have to be sorta randomized for this to work.
OH MY GOD THIS IS MY DREAM GAME! FUCKING FINALLY! /C
Looks like some it could have some potential. But that's what I thought when I saw Darkest of Days and that game was just a huge disappointement. If the shooting mechanics would be somewhat same to Red Orchestra, this could be a great game. Also a thing I thought is that it would be kind of boring always running through brown or black areas. But nevertheless it looks decent.
I thought that the target practice while being shelled just a few meters away was a bit silly
Also before anyone wonders you can only place as France.
:saddowns:
Yeah, they only spoke french in the teaser. It sounded bad. I hoped to play as Germans.
What is it with WW1 and grey clouds + rain.
Why is it that people seem to ignore the existence of the Spring and 100 days offensives? Also, i'm particuarly interested in how this melee system works.
Myth and Misconceptions
Why is it that people seem to ignore the existence of the Spring and 100 days offensives? Also, i'm particuarly interested in how this melee system works.
True. Operation Michael alone could have an entire game created around it. Most of the World War I games out there have been flight sims since PC gaming became the big thing with ground warfare barely being touched upon. While the better ones of this lot give the player an opportunity to observe the ground war from above, noting changes in trench lines and such in the process, it leaves a lot to be desired. The Red Baron series by Dynamix probably is the most well-known example, Rise of Flight has been up there in recent times, for utilizing this as a feature (the battle lines thing, I mean). There have been a few diplomatic games following along in the spirit of Hearts of Iron, some naval simulators, and a handful of RTS games. Not to mention scores of modifications released (like Battlefield 1918 and Full Canvas Jacket), abandoned, and still being developed. I'm looking forward a lot to Company of Heroes' The Great War mod which is supposed to come out sometime this year. It's probably the best-looking CoH mod that's been developed. Definitely changes a lot of the core game's mechanics around, that's for true. http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-great-war-1918

I dunno, I can't see the infiltration system having any kind of practical use in trench warfare. If you got into their trenches, they would know it.

Are they gonna release it at the 11th hour of the 11th? It would be a cool gimmick
Dude, read this, search for the title "The Return Of Mobility, 1918" http://www.cgsc.edu/carl/resources/csi/house/house.asp#Chapter%20Two.
Aye, but that was mainly the German troops. The French mainly fought a defensive war, although they did occasionally gain back a few trenches.
Play as Russia on the Eastern front and don't even get a weapon.
What is it with WW1 and grey clouds + rain.
Because that's the common thought of World War One, being that it was one of the most brutal wars the world has seen.
Aye, but that was mainly the German troops. The French mainly fought a defensive war, although they did occasionally gain back a few trenches.
France's conduct of the war at the strategic level before the late-war offensives is outside the scope of an FPS.
