it is a good idea to reload me regularly, never know when there might be a stray pyro burning your ass
Every time I shoot, or kill an enemy or enemies, I think it's clear, I reload. Even when I have a full clip.
This.
Now I'm off to read the other 50,000 threads with this same subject.
Well it depends on the game. I reload if I have shot all my bullets IF changing the magazine is realistic. For example, I forgot the games that do it (Battlefield 2?), if your gun holds 30 bullets, and you shoot, say 10, you reload, you lose the 20 left in that clip, deducting from your overall ammo supply.
If, like most games, the reloading is unrealistic, then I'll reload any time when it is safe and I am below what my gun holds.
This.
Assuming it's an unrealistic reloading system (not BF2/ArmA2), after every fight.
With ARMA 2 you'd want to reload between each fight, as it's a big issue to have to do so mid combat.
after one bullet is shot if no one is around
It really depends on the game for me. Usually I reload whenever its clear, but on games like neotokyo and tremulous that have more realistic reloading and you lose any unused rounds still in the magazine, I use bullets more sparingly
Unless the game/weapon has a very slow reload (E.g. SAWs in ArmA) I'll do it just about always.
I reload about 5 times every fire fight. I'm obsessed with it. If I'm in cover, I'll pop up, shoot a burst, then duck down reload and repeat.
I have a bad habit of reloading after every kill. It's especially bad in games like counterstrike source where if you aren't ready to shoot the very second you see someone, you're dead meat.
I reload whenever I get a brief respite if you have bullet-style ammo like in CS:S, but in mag/clip-style ammo systems like DoD:S, I reload whenever I have less than a quarter ammo left.
I love Red Orchestras ammunition system. Teaches you to reload only when the clip is done.
I reload after every kill. it's just habit. It gets me into trouble a lot.
UNLESS i'm using a bolt action sniper, which is pretty much all the time. That probably should have been said first.
I hate games that waste the entire clip when reloading after one shot. Fuck realism.
If I'm not in a firefight and I'm missing even one bullet I'll have to reload else it'll drive me crazy.
I reload all the time if the game doesn't work on a per clip system.
I love reloading, if I'm missing even one bullet, I reload.
Hell, I shoot walls just so I can reload.
I just spam R, regardless if i shot a bullet.
CSS told me to reload.
I tend to not reload until I am out of ammo unless I figure I will need a full magazine at once. I tend to play realistic shooters so usually I am firing in small bursts.
I reload once I'm below half a mag, or if I'm uncertain as to the number of rounds I have left. That's because in games where you don't have a magical bullet-counter you usually don't need 50013 shots to kill someone. I mean yeah, it's better to have a full magazine, but not when it means you throw away ammo, or you divide up all your ammo so each mag ends up with about 10 rounds in each.

Magazine!
Even if in RO most of the weapons are clip fed, it'd still be emptying the magazine by firing. The clip is disposed of.
Why is it that in every thread about guns or reloading or what have you, I have to correct anyone who uses the term "Clip".
I hate games that waste the entire clip when reloading after one shot. Fuck realism.
It's not necessarily realism, as most soldiers would save magazines with more than 50% of the original round-count. It'd just take a bit longer to reload
I normally throw my gun away if it's empty instead of bothering to reload.
Depends on the weapon.. If I have a gun that reloads in like 2 seconds, I reload almost after every enemy down. But if it's something that has a 3 week long reload... Yeah, thats when I reload after a fire fight.
Basicly this. Plus I love to hit the last weapon used key a lot.
I'll often reload after killing someone although I realise that I shouldn't because there is another guy right behind him :sigh:
I reload when i don't shoot anyone.
After playing a few days of BF2 I never reload >.<'
The illiteracy in this thread amazes me :geno: Most of the guns your firing use MAGAZINES, Assault rifles, pistols, sub machine guns, they all use magazines, not clips. Only old guns and some guns designed to hold smaller amounts of ammo use clips if I remember rightly. (Thank you Weaboo weaponry for teaching me)
I reload whenever I feel safe, or after a fight in which I have killed everyone I see (I normally die first anyway) If I do get unlucky and run low mid fight, I run like fuck to cover or something just so I can attempt to reload. I rarely ever let the magazine run dry as most games don't punish you for throwing half of one away.
I mostly reload after every burst, when its clear. Unless its a game where you count mags instead of bullets
I reload constantly; I have too many experiences in Planetside where I'm one bullet short of killing a guy who is running at me with an auto shotgun. :argh:
I reload whenever I'm in cover and have a chance to reload, or when there's no enemies nearby, depending on the speed of the weapons reloading to.
In Battlefield 2 if you shoot one bullet of a gun or rifle and reload, then you've wasted alot of ammo, or like in Counter-Strike Source it just takes the needed ammo to replace what you have used.
Reloading have made me get the habit of pressing R in every game with any form of weapon, wether in a vehicle or not. :v:

Clips feed the magazine, magazine feeds the chamber, put simply. In old rifles, the magazine is internal, and when reloading a soldier would open the bolt and strip round from the clip into the magazine, and throw away the empty clip. Cycling the bolt feeds another round from the magazine into the chamber.
In pretty much all modern small arms save for revolvers, the magazine is detachable. Before entering combat, a soldier will load individual rounds into a magazine by hand, or use a speed-loader which is similar to a clip. When in combat, the magazine is discarded and a new one inserted.
The one exception to all this is the M1 Garand. The clip stays inside the rifle until all the rounds have been expended or until the user ejects it. It still has an internal magazine though.
Also another notable incorrect use of terminoligy is "Bullet". The bullet is the part of the cartridge which is fired from the barrel. It does not include the casing, propellant or other components, only the bit of lead which flies at high speeds.
