I think CS:S is overrated. I tried it and it really isn't as fun as it's led on to be.
Halo: Combat Evolved was actually a really good game and it was innovative.
I think a very overrated game is Starcraft.

It seems that Rockstar had in their mind at the moment of making GTA IV was Fun < Realism.

Personally I liked the game, and I see why people wouldn't like the game, but I do not see at [i]all[/i] how it was overrated.
People talked about it for maybe a month after it was released because it was pretty fun, and then it died down.

Yeah lets let Bethesda (yeah Obsidian made New Vegas but still) think its ok to make extremely buggy, practically unplayable games with the worst engine ever created and a horrible combat system. Hey that deserves a 9/10 and Game of the Year.

Half-Life 2's Source Engine made physics engines popular. It's still impressive today.

Personally I don't like any of the Halos. Hip firing weapons that take 3 clips to kill someone just doesn't appeal to me. I am also not a fan of Half Life 2. I have played it and to me it just felt like driving a car, hoverboat for 3 hours then getting out and shooting endless waves of bad guys who all look the same.

Unfortunately you're correct. Even I'm guilty of this to some extent, since I bought World at War. That game was the last straw for me. I've often wondered how people (myself included) can be so easily persuaded to buy the same game with a new coat of paint (and once every [i]year[/i]...). Obviously, its success plays a large part in what it continues to be, so any criticism of it is automatically a criticism of its fanbase, I thought that went without saying.

While I found that game to be a huge letdown, I'm not sure that it qualifies as overrated. Maybe among some reviewers (many of whom, in my estimation, tend to give good marks to anything as long as it's hyped enough and isn't obviously broken), but I get the distinct impression that most people who have played it were underwhelmed at best.
People who says that minecraft is the most overrated game probably should look in a dictionary for what the word overrated means.

Thats because you have no sense of story, surroundings, or complexity. You were obviously not a gamer in 2004.
Spore was the biggest waste of money i have ever spent. It worked for a week-then the last 2 stages always crashed at the start.
Still, a year later they have done nothing to fix this widespread issue.

Awful writing, herp-de-derp voice acting, no gameplay, and poor story telling. Heavy Rain lowered the bar for video games, luckily not many developers are trying to copy it.

Half Life 2 barely has a story. It's Gordon Freeman traveling from one place to the other while every so often people ask him to do meaningless tasks. And I was a gamer is 2004. I played Nintendo 64 though.
