WoW is the best MMO out there. WAR doesn't feel quite finnished, and LOTRO is just boring. Don't play any of them anymore, but I've definitely enjoyed WoW the most.
EVE Online.
PvP is the diamond of EVE.
Except EVEs combat system is shit.
Except EVEs combat system is shit.
Except that people with no brains fail.
WAR- Best PVP.
WoW- Good community
LOTRO- Good story.
I'd say Lord of the rings is best.
Having tried LotRO then WoW I found that LotRO is exactly like wow except it doesn't look like liquid shit from 2002.
But yeah, its PvE focused with the option to play as a high level monster-player... not much pvp at all

I agree, and I don't want to sound like some guy who just played it for a day and gave up. I played it for two and a half months, joined a corp, did mining things and a little bit of PvP. But it just gets really boring.

Your doing it wrong.
WoW - best PvE, fun PvP
WAR- Unfinished, unpolished, bad.
LotRO- What?
EVE- Very immense and epic with awesome economy, but not immersive and feels like you're reading a 'choose your own adventure' book, except in slow motion.
I have played all of them. My favorite is EVE because I like the setting more, and I like my games to have complexity. Other MMO's seem way too simple. Wow got really boring for me because it was all the same shit, the shit was just different colors, and it gets harder and harder to crap out colors, and at one point you get constipated and can't crap any more.

I'll stand up for Lotro then.
Lotro is probably the best mmo I've played. Even though I'm not playing it right now, I still find myself wanting to go back. Not for the gameplay aspects(that's the reason I left, the gameplay does get boring), but the community was by far the best. Tons of dudes, just chillin' around the Prancing Pony in Bree, playing songs on their instruments. Seriously. EVE ain't got shit on that. WAR defiantly ain't got shit on that. WoW might have some shit on that but I haven't played WoW in years.
Lotro is a WoW clone, yes, but it does so many things better.
Try the trial for Eve before you buy it.
Eve goes one or two ways. Either you like it, or you hate it.
I hate it!

I'm going to agree with you on that. Creepside community was astonishingly nice - much better than playing as a freep IMO - you could ask for advice and get answers from 5-10 different people, and within a week of starting my creep player I was in a clan full of pleasant people, always rushing to the aid of noob creeps... because freeps LOVE ganking on noobs so they stop playing as a creep.
EDIT: AND the feeling of holding a keep when you were outnumbered 2-1 by freeps was AMAZING. I've never enjoyed PVP so much in any other game, be it leading raids on freep forts, holding a keep for 2-3 hours against overwhelming forces, or being assigned to watch duty keeping an eye out for incoming raids.
DOUBLE EDIT: Holy shit, I'm going to call customer support right now and get my username/pass back.
I've just started playing Lotro and the Monster Play does look pretty good. Haven't had chance to give it a proper go yet though.
Lol, once we got 54 creeps in 2 raid groups, and I was leading the attack.
We were attacking the middle castle, and basically the whole battle was charging the castle, most of us dying, running away, respawning, and charging again. Was very fun.
Depends what you want. If you want easy, casual "fun" pvp with no depth or complexity WoW is for you. If you want PvP that's a little more interesting, warhammer, and if you wan- oh shit oh fuck my ship oh fuck im gonna be poor shit fuck eve online screw you man
Also the people who play EVE are often Uber SRS BSNS kinds of people, like the guy who joined a guild/club thing for a year, just so he can murder the leader. (This is a year real time)
I've played more MMOs than is healthy but truth be told every game has something over the others which makes it a viable option.
LOTRO: Community/Fun with friends/Casual/bit of lore and/or movie reference
Warhammer: Medieval pvp/rvr/bit more graphic than LOTRO or WoW
WoW: lore/pve based, casual pvp (sure you can get into arena and such but compared to other games WoW's pvp is not that good.
Eve: PVP based/anything from pirating (ransoming ships when you've caught them in space) to being a trader to an industrialist or renting space out to the run of the mill grinding quest (missions in eve's case) to get money, character progresses via skills that take real time to increase.

Personally I've been playing eve and wow on and off for the past 4 years. Until recently I liked being able to pay for eve with in-game currency to buy game time, ccp has two methods of doing it now but they got rid of some of the available gtcs so it costs more now. I used to run 4 accounts on eve and hop between those and wow (friends played wow) but I loved the depth to eve. I only quit eve due to being a time issue playing games so much so now I casually play wow just for friends. I would highly recommend looking for actual gameplay videos for each game as well as take a look into aion http://www.aiononline.com/us/ which when it releases here in U.S. I will drop WoW to play it or perhaps play the two on & off. http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=759075
As you can see I'm mostly a fan of Eve & believe me I loved the game more than the others I've played. The deal with Eve is it's tough starting out as well as finding the right group to be with as well as can be very addicting if you figure it out & love it. So I'd look in the forums for Facepunch's Eve corporation (dunno if they're still around), if you're going to consider Eve, or look these guys up http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/Eve_University_(Player_corporation) Everything I've written is merely my biased opinion heh.

This. Either you get past the steep learning curve and get to enjoy the game and all of its options, or you get lost along the way and bash it for being "bad."
basically what I was going for is that LotRO is really fucking similar to wow (i played lotro first) but lotro looks feels and plays tons better than that cartoony shit.
WoW

LotRO

I quit lotro because I was annoyed with the inability to customize attributes, which broke the RPG aspect of it for me, considering that every level 60 was the exact same as any other level 60 of the same class and maybe looked a little different with a different profession and probably had more money and as a result better shit.
Then I played wow (which was the same save for skill trees, big woop) and was disappointed by how ugly and cumbersome it was.

This.
Holy shit that WoW picture is about 3 years old now.
At highest setting- which most PCs should have no problem reaching with no fps loss WoW can look 10x better than that

I personally recommend World of Warcraft. Large world. Very many quests. Cool story. Many players. Always having events and such online, like fishing events and what not? It's great! Hah.
Personally I play WoW, but if I could pay for 2 mmos that I would play regularly, the second would be Lotro.

EVE have both self-shadowing and HDR and DX10 (i think) and looks 11 times better than WoW.
Thou i don't care about graphics i play it because it's so fucking HUGE world and have endless possibilities.

Yeah. If you were making a game would you rather have more players with alright graphics, or really good graphics with less players because not everyone has a great computer. You tell me.

EVE is a game that attempts to constantly look up to date with graphics however the looks are starting to age.
WoW on the other hand goes for the obviously TF2-ish cartoony graphics that remain decent for much longer.
WoW:
+ Huge ever expanding playing area.
+ Lots and lots of players .
+ PvE.
+ Lot of races to choose from.
+ Lots of things you can do, Craft, smith, engineer? etc.
- Bad PvP.
- Does not look too good.
- Lots and lots of players.
- ???
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WAoR (warhammer age of reckoning)
+ Customizing armors (coloring, trophies etc).
+ Best PvP ever.
+ Scenarios.
+ Easy to make money.
+ Look better than WoW and lotro.
+ Lots of different enemies.
- Not many players.
- Not many things you can do.
- Not many weapons, armors, shields etc.
- Terrible auction system.
- Kind of small playing area.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
