my childhood

This game was my childhood, as I've said before.
I need some help remembering a side-scroller game. It was about space and stuff, you'd pilot a ship and destroy enemies and the objects and things and unlock rewards you could sell and upgrade your stuff with. Sorry if it's not a lot to go on.
It's fairly new, probably less than three years old, I remember it being released free for a time on some obscure website. I bet there's lots of games like this so I'm not counting on pinpointing it.
The thing I remember the most was a mission where you were placed in this arena and you had to kill the enemies to survive for some sort of galactic TV show or something.

Metal Arms: Glitch in the System, This is my all time favorite 3rd person shooter, look it up, i'm sure you have never heard of it.

I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE. I think I love you.

I was gonna reply to the Conflict Vietnam post about Conflict Desert Storm, and then I scrolled down and saw Midtown Madness. So I'll just say that this thread is super nostalgic for me.

"weaponsforall"
"itsallgoingmaaad"
"giveusatank"
Those three phrases were my childhood.
My usual day in GTA 3:
gunsgunsgunsgunsgunsguns...
taking out RL
BOOM BOOM BOOM
corpses without legs and hands all over the street
Although my first GTA was GTA 2, played it in computer club on all money I could get, before I got my first shitty PC in 2003.

"I gotta catch the wheelman!"
"No Tanner, you ARE the wheelman."
And then Tanner was the wheelman.

Before they turned it into the crap 2 and 3 were.
Although they weren't bad, this one was the best.

They should really remake MTX Mototrax. To this day, it's still the best motocross game i have ever played.
The soundtrack was also fucking epic:

Loved this game but my cd was bugged and the game looped level selection screen after getting halfway through the game making it unable for me to beat it.

No love for Freespace?

It must've been 10 years ago that I first played this game, I actually got it from a friend whose PC couldn't run it, but luckily mine could. At the time my knowledge of english was very limited and the controls in this game were quite complicated, so I often had trouble figuring out what I was supposed to do, but despite that the game simply blew me away. Really sad to see that the genre is pretty much dead nowadays, just imagine a space sim that could be created with today's technology and game budgets.
