Do you think it will use a new big graphic hound engine (I dont wanna buy a new computer to run this game lol). The EP 2 Engine? Or a new upgraded Source engine? Post you thoughts here!
It will use a Diesel engine!
Valve dont need the AI director in Episode Three. Turtle Rock used it because theyre too lazy to place the zombies themselves
because replayablity is just stupid, I mean, who needs it?
If valve doesn't give source full dynamic lighting and better texture rendering optimization (AKA: Occlusion rendering you fucks!)
I'LL FUCKING RAAAAAAAAAAGEEEEEEEEEEE
The trick is to only use one 'E' on the end, because as it is, it reads as if you screamed 'Ragey'. IMHOFYIFOAD.
Personally, I would be happy with multicore rendering, improved physics (they're still a bit too rigid and, surprisingly, lifeless, for my liking), and some more dynamic lighting.
All possible, all realistic, all likely. The AI and heavily scripted / linear playstyle can stay exactly as it is - that's what makes these games so fun, and it's what allows Valve to craft such detailed and smooth-flowing storylines. Keep it that way.
There is no 'L4D Engine' you dolts. It's all Source.
We already know that you "dolt". It's easier to refer to the L4D version of source as the L4D engine than having to say the number of the version of the Source engine which does not list on console inside L4D.
This just in source has been renamed to sliversource valve has released new engine called common.
I think if Valve makes a new engine they should call it ReSource
(Go to the end of my post if you just want my on topic answer.)
You would play once and be satisfied. However, you could also play multiple times to be satisfied, too.
Mmhhhm, what about the scenes where the AI is going in a certain direction or path to make it more tense? like zombies breaking down a door in ep1, or the white forest inn ambush. would you have them just have random spawning combine in between those scenes? because in the commentary they say the brief calm moments are to cause tension before the next battle.
I guess it would be okay if it was optional, play the scripted version first. then go crazy all you want but honestly I think it won't improve a lot, I mean the only way to get it to work without getting the player's butt kicked is to spawn like two extra enemies sometimes. don't forget all the different types of enemies it would get dull unless you had like SPECIAL COMBINE.
(and I'm sure they'll use the latest stable source engine, L4D2's maybe. but they might fit an extra game in between. ep3 is rumored to come out 2011 but no need to go into that here just ignore that.)
The source engine. What else?
i give you a box, OP.
What the question really is, what engine will Half Life 3 use?
Do you think it will use a new big graphic hound engine (I dont wanna buy a new computer to run this game lol). The EP 2 Engine? Or a new upgraded Source engine? Post you thoughts here!
Obviously source engine, moron
It depends on when it comes out. It could be the L4D2 version of the Source engine, or an improved version of that engine, or even a completely new engine (though odds of that are unlikely).
This just in source has been renamed to sliversource valve has released new engine called common.
SilverSrc would be working backwards.
Lol yeah, as thats the most upgraded Source engine right now! Lol jk
[editline]08:20PM[/editline]
Nah I doubt that. I dont think they would use Unreals engine, as Valve uses there own engines
Oh fuck off back to your Anime forums
No, it won't. It would have taken them at least a year to make ep3 then if they did that.
Why... exactly? It already takes well over a year by the way, so what's the problem?
Source. And then some.
What the question really is, what engine will Half Life 3 use?
Hopefully valve will make a completely new engine that will be awesome
OB Engine. L4D Source doesn't have vehicle support, and Half-Life isn't meant to be as cinematic as L4D.
L4D2 With modifications and no more vpk.
L4D2 With modifications and no more vpk.
I really doubt that.
I really doubt that.
So do i :frown:
Probably the L4D version of Source.
Episode 2 uses it.
See: Source shadows.
I thnk that it'll be the Source 2009 [if Valve releases it in 2009].
I wish Valve would just upgrade source massively, or move on, because it's really starting to show it's age, not that I won't play the games just because of their graphics but still, for games released in 2009 it's getting to an unacceptably low standard.
The Source engine. There are currently 3 or so tiers of Source used by the various Valve games; the original Valve-adapted Source build used by HL2, the Episode 1 engine used by EP1 and HL2:DM, the Orange Box engine used by TF2 and EP2, and an adapted version of the OB build used for L4D.
More than likely, there'll be another build for Episode 3 to handle any new creatures, NPCs or enhancements to make the game flow more, like an AI upgrade for the Advisors so they don't need scripts to function, or any new weapons that may be found along the way to the Borealis.
Essay over.
No, I want an engaging story and game that plays out exactly how Valve wanted it. I want a game that I can play once and be satisfied. Not a game I have to play over and over to get my monies worth.
The AI director just wouldn't fit well for a single player game in my opinion.
Accutally a director would be great for external conflicts..
Example.. Your walking along a cliff path while a few rebels are in the area off the cliff, down at the bottom of a valley. You can help them or just watch them get owned.
Assorted things like that. Little conflicts that are not conflicting with the main story, but that you can join in just to shoot crap.
So do i :frown:
What's so bad about vpk?

Like: "Nice storyline, but I really just feel like shooting stuff. Hey, what's over there?"
While also permitting: "I really like the storyline, and I'm glad I don't just have to shoot stuff all the time."
Thread is Optimistic.
They're going to use an Updated Version of Source.
Of course they are going to use Source duhhhh it does not take a Genius to figure that out....
What the question really is, what engine will Half Life 3 use?
It will use a V8 Engine!
Well I personaly dont care much of an AI Director now, as it would be a mess with certain parts of the game, For Example, like what if your ingame and right when a level starts theres a bunch of Antlion Guards spawn around you. Also a bunch of combine would probaly spawn in tables and stuff knowing the sense of the AI Director. They cant use the Left 4 Dead engine (Okay know it alls, it is a source engine, but it dosent use hl2.exe, it uses L4D.exe and dosent use the Half life 2 menus or anything.) because first of all, ingame L4D you only get 2 guns. Thats like saying the only weapons you will get is a Crowbar and a gravity gun. Also, the L4D engine triggers hordes at random times, so that will be like you randomly see 400 combine running at you. Okay, I know they can modify the L4D engine to meet the Half-Life 2 standards, but do you really think they will go through ALL that modifying of an engine to make HL2:EP3 when they allready have the most updated Half-Life 2 engine and they can just make a FEW modifications to that. Also one more thing, the L4D engine dosent use "npcs", it uses "z_zpawns?" not "npc_create", so they wouldnt have any of the HL2 npcs and would have to make lots of adjustments to get them in.
Voxelstein 3d engine :D
EDIT: The Voxlap engine that is.
