Well I'm doin' a modified version of that Hermit challenge, any migrants need to be slaughtered and I have two choices:
Put the lever of the DAS in his room.
Force him to go near the DAS to pull the lever and make him see the decay of the migrants.
Will the second option make him go stark raving mad or make for wonderful engravings?
As far as I could tell, Champion was a title like he said, and this page seems to back me up:
Gah, I really want to play Dwarf Fortress, its hard to stop myself playing before the new version is out :frown: I need some free game to entertain me
Um why do you need to stop yourself playing.
are you not allowed or something?
I have not visited this location for quite some time, perhaps i should attempt to play dwarf fortress again for various reasons.
No, but we could make it this to do that:

Because fortress' take a while, and I'll only end up getting halfway through the fortress I'll be on, then the new version of DF will come out and I'll have to swap halfway through.
I was just reading the first book of Lord of the Rings, and just read the part where the fellowship are passing through Moria. The dwarves' record of the dwarven reclamation of Moria made me laugh, 'cause it sounds so much like a Let's Play of DF.
10th of Timber, year 5 of our reclamation efforts.
Our mayor, Balin, was struck down today. He went outside to pick up some socks when an ambush struck! He was shot in the back and killed before he even knew what was happening. They swarmed in from the east, and headed straight for the entrance. We didn't have any traps up yet, so we tried to barricade the gates but they got through. We held off the first squad, but they broke the barricades. We forced them back, then retreated to the bridge. Frar, Loni and Nali died defending the bridge: Loni had his guts liquified by a crossbow bolt, the others dodged straight off the bridge to their deaths.
We've fallen back to the tomb that we built for Balin. We haven't got his body here, though, so it may well end up going empty if we don't survive the Orcs. Oin went out the west entrance, looking to dump an Orc's corpse on the refuse pile out there, I think. Sadly, he was eaten by the Watcher that's been lurking there every since we came here. I knew we should have air-drowned that bastard when we had the chance. The rest of us almost died when the clowns came out of their pits and had a go at the Orcs. Not long now. We're all hungry and thirsty. There's no food. The booze stockpile caught fire earlier thanks to the clowns. We're going to die down here. Huri has engraved an image of our last stand on the wall of this tomb. He's also done one of cheese and a ca- *page is stained* -in the deep. I can hear drums in the deep. And a knocking. And screaming. Oh Armok the screaming. I think-
Oh, just so you know, that's not what it actually says in the book. This is just my idea of what the record would have sounded like if it was in DF. :v:

Since Tolkien was the person who invented High Fantasy, I would imagine that Toady would've taken inspiration from Lord of the Rings (The HFS and Adamantine are based on the Balrog and Mithril, respectively.)
However, I still firmly believe that Orzammar and the Dwarves from Dragon Age: Origins are based on Dwarf Fortress, the similarities are too uncanny, right down to the queasiness Dwarves feel when exiting the fortress to the way nobles are impossibly annoying.

And later when we're able to pick people to play in adventure mode, how the moment you control a noble he's awesome.
A bit of distraction from military matters -- they started walking into water 6 of 7 deep if there was an available ramp, then scrambled right back out. Milling jobs were using wooden chests and then calling them wooden bags afterward. "Skeletal" slugmen and other oddities no longer occur (you can still get zombies). I got rid of the snow display during world gen, made scorching areas available again, and added parameters and parameter sets to make worlds that are surrounded by water on all sides for people that like that look.

Reading this is not helping... :frown:
Oh man, this one looks so badass, like a Hawaiian island or something.

Continents. Fuck yeah. I am so making a large one.
"Eyelids clean the eyes so you don't have to soap them off, but if an eyelid is torn off, I think they might soap the eyes."
Ouch.
looks like a troll with missing leg. And arm.
If scars are possible in the new version, I'm definitely going to try and create a Colonel Quaritch character.
Who sips booze while he burns elves.
Hell yeah.
Five more days until my predicted release date. Cmon Toady, I want to win that jackpot.
Ooh, I just had a thought:
In the next version, will we be able to look at levers and find out what they're connected to?
Ooh, I just had a thought:

Doubt it, Toady hasn't mentioned anything relating to that. Use the note system to add notes on the levers when you make them, so that when you forget what they're connected to you can just check your own note.

The entire idea of making a "Hell's Gate" style Fortress, where you live in both fear and hatred of the forest and it's inhabitants (Na'Vi and Elves are pretty much identical in many regards, only Elves are more squishy) would be awesome.
Especially if you find an Adamantine deposit (or whatever new fangled super metal Toady is going to make in the new version) in the forest.
IT'S OUT!

That should be a bannable offense.

Hahahah, you're funny.
We were actually talking about Matrix references and Dwarf Fortress on the Minecraft IRC a while ago.
No, it's not

I edited it out because it was a lame joke and I found something better to replace it.
Alrighty then
What's that tool that allows you to manage your dorfs?
DwarfTherapist, I believe
